Error MBAM_ERROR_LOAD_DATABASE (0,48) encountered on starting up Malwarebytes

Today while trying to upgrade the latest version 1.46, I started seeing this problem. On startup, malwarebytes gives the following warning and shuts down:

An error has occurred. Please report this error code to our support team: MBAM_ERROR_LOAD_DATABASE (0,48). I have tried uninstalling, running the cleanup, and reinstalling the new version and the problem still exists. Please help.

Please print out, read and follow the directions here, skipping any steps you are unable to complete. Then post back the logs
