Woke Up, Booted Up and Found a Mess!

Recommended Posts

I've been lurking for some time now, and have found a place where questions are answered and everybody seems willing to give some good advice.

Lately I've dealt with my surfing being redirected to another site. Before I allow it, I hit the home button and move on. Malwarebytes did detect 2 Trojan droppers which I kept quarentined. This morning I booted up the computer and noticed my xp theme is gone. I also noticed I couldn't get online. Called the provided and was told that no issues in my area. I decided to try, System Restore and I was up and running. Still, not happy since I'm going nuts over the xp theme, and am not able to get into Microsoft to have a look and find some answers. I'm being redirected and I'm becoming worried. Help!!!!!!....thank you. :)

Hello Chansmom, and welcome to the forums here at Malwarebytes.org :)

You've come to the right place!

Please read the following to complete the cleaning process:

We don't work on Malware removal in the general forums.

Please read and follow the directions here, skipping any steps you are unable to complete. Then post a NEW topic here.

One of the expert helpers there will give you one-on-one assistance when one becomes available.

Please note that it may take 48 hours or more for you to receive a response in the malware removal forum, as it is often busy at times. Please do not reply to your own post asking for help unless its been more than 48 hours since you originally posted, as this can make it appear as though you are being helped and take longer for you to get help.

If you are unable to do all or any of the steps in the link to the directions above, just post your problem into the forum I gave you a link to anyway and someone will be able to assist you.

Also, when replying, please use the "ADD REPLY" button located at the bottom of the page, as this makes the forum easier to read.

After posting your new post make sure under options that you select Track this topic and choose one of the Email options so that you're alerted when someone has replied to your post.

Thank you :)

Regarding the use of GMER Rootkit. I have to admit I was confused by unchecking Drives/Partitions other than Systemdrive. While I'm smart, I'm not that smart when it comes to computer language. :) The rest was easy to understand, I just wasn't sure about what to leave checked and unchecked. I suppose I messed it up. Any ideas there? I would greatly appreciate it.

I've done a system restore a few times in order to get online. I also made some discoveries along the way. My sound card driver disappeared, though when I moved the days back, it's there. I'm really becoming angry. I keep a clean joint on my set up, and for this to happen just tee's me off! :)
