Background scans and some etc

Recommended Posts

Ok, MBAM is good, in fact I removed AVG for it(I can do without a program that only protects me from ``tracking cookies`` and misses real threats), but it has some issues.

First off, you can't really have a silent scan, it seems silent, but it makes the computer hang and I always end up dropping the prio or terminating it.

So I suggest, so called "silent scans" should have a below normal prio', so that the computer doesn't hang if you run one on a slower computer. It'll take longer that way, however; speed isn't really a concern if it's silent now is it?

I also liked startup lite in concept, but it was glitchy and just plain lame in that it caught hardly anything. I think you should add those features to the pro or free version of this software.

Greetings Astruvis and welcome to Malwarebytes :welcome:

Thank you very much for the compliments and suggestions. The feedback is much appreciated. I like your ideas and have passed them on to the developers so they can take a look.

As for replacing AVG with MBAM, please be aware that MBAM is not a replacement for an active antivirus software, but instead it is a tool designed to work together with your antivirus to catch the threats that most AV's tend to miss so I highly recommend that you install antivirus software to have comprehensive protection for your PC. The following are my personal recommendations for antivirus protection along with links to downloads for them (free trials for those that require a purchase so you can try them before deciding):

Note: If you decide to use one of the trial versions of one of the paid antiviruses then you will either need to purchase it or uninstall it completely and install a replacement antivirus before the trial expires so that your PC is not left unprotected.

Also note that if using the paid version of Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware with your antivirus in realtime that it is generally a good idea to exclude Malwarebytes' files from your antivirus to avoid conflicts. The FAQ contains examples of setting file exclusions for some known AV products.

Why should I get a so called "antivirus" when there is no real reason to use one.

Firewall? I have a router. Anti-spyware? MBAM does that, I don't care about those tracking cookies. Anti-fishing? Do you think I'm that stupid? I hope not. Resident shield? MBAM pro does that as well. Email protection? AVG doesn't even filter webmail which is what I would guess 95% of people use. But why would I want a product reading my email anyway?

AVG is a failure, and MBAM can be used alone by anyone with half a brain, it doesn't do anything this doesn't except maybe miss something the other wouldn't. And AVG slows it down bad.

I use avast! V5 and it does scan webmail with its Web Shield and many people still use Outlook Express for POP3 and SMTP email that avast! can check.

As you do not show what your system specifications are then it is hard to recommend a good anti virus application that would be suitable for your system.

Gmail has a spam check anyway.

And I'm not stupid enough to go; Look!!! An email from a random person I don't know with a .png.exe or .gif.pdf attached!! Im going to open it, after all its just a picture!

Seriously, if you cant look at the file beforehand and judge if its safe, you have a crappy email device or your judgment is very poor.

Considering how much malware is actually propagated through e-mail, and how much of e-mail traffic is actually spam, clearly the poor of judgment are being targeted and successfully so. There will come a day (if it hasn't come already) when the spreading of malware through e-mail will be more sophisticated and will be able to bypass your judgment. Antivirus heuristics are a good defense against that idea.
