MWB blocks sites that are not dangerous - What can I do about it?

Hello there ,

MWB blocks too many sites that are no thread at all like serienjunkies.org or leecher.to . I can't access these sites no longer.

When I turn off the site blocking feature it doesn't work either. I then have to restart the whole system, then it works with the option turned off.

How can I tell MWB NOT to block CERTAIN sites?

I did like you said.

But:

I added the site leecher.to to the ignore list, MWB suggested 3 Ips, all were added, but I still CAN'T access the site while the blocking mode is on

I TRIED to add serienjunkies.org but in the "add to ignore list" dialog was no Ip to choose. The site is still blocked.

What can this be?

If you have Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware's realtime protection turned off and still can't access the site then it isn't Malwarebytes' blocking it.

It's 100% MWB.

My system is stable for 6 months now, no problems.

Since the the very first minute I installed MWB the problems occured.

The blocking stops ONLY when:

I turn off the blocking module

and then

RESTART the system

A simple turn off of the module just won't work

Even when I shut down MWB completly in the task manager, the site is still bloked, still I start again.

Does nobody else got these kinda problems?

Please open Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and open the most recent Protection Log and copy and paste its contents into your next reply. It will show what IP's it has been blocking.

It looks like IP Protection was disabled and re-enabled within one second several times, was that you checking and unchecking it? If not then there is something strange going on with the software.

As for having it ignore IP's, I only see 85.17.93.2 being added to the Ignore List. Is that the only one that you added or were there others?

Also, it's possible that after a site has been ignored that you need to clear your temporary internet files and then try re-visiting the site, as browser caching may account for why it still appears to be blocked. If that doesn't solve it then you may need to clear your DNS cache. To do so, open an administrative command prompt and execute the following command:

ipconfig /flushdns

Once it's done, try browsing to the page you added to the Ignore List again and it should now show up.

The name derives from the leech, an animal which sucks blood and then tries to leave unnoticed.

On peer to peer networks, a leecher shares nothing (or very little of little worth) for upload.

I had all blocking turned off (including Hostsman) and I could access serienjunkies.org - A Torrents site - Leecher.to is the same -

This site should be blocked as it still left a tracking cookie (that I removed) after 1 min looking at it -

Sometimes caching does cause that issue as I've seen it myself on occasion. Also note that with regards to ignoring a site you have to usually wait until the tray notification pops up indicating that the site was blocked before it lets you ignore it. It's likely that the other blocked sites were simply for ads on the page so blocking them still allowed the page to load.

One of my mates got this terrible virus that blocks MWB and everything, you know.

He only had the free version of MWB.

Yes, many infections are doing that these days unfortunately. Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware's researchers do their best to keep up with the latest threats, and part of that is actually the malicious website blocker, which itself is a very proactive feature due to its nature, blocking known malicious IP's and hosts, so even if the threats they're spreading mutate, avoiding detection, the IP still gets blocked so the new variant has no chance of getting in.

With regards to your friend, I can't say for certain that the Pro version would or would not have prevented it, but it is likely that it would have because these latest nasties are precisely the kinds of threats that we actively pursue to target.
