VIPRE by Sunbelt needed?

Recommended Posts

I have a licensed copy of the VIPRE Premium. About a month ago, I got a nasty IE hijacker virus. VIPRE failed to prevent, detect, or remove it. When I called Sunbelt support they directed me to download Malwarebytes Anti-malware (which the support person described as their partner). I had used Malwarebytes in the past with good success. After running a full scan with Malwarebytes, the virus was detected and removed successfully.

I recently purchased the "registered" version of Malwarebytes Anti-Malware. This version has the ability for active protection, automatic updates, and scheduled scans. I realize that Sunbelt has partnered with Malwarebytes, so I don't expect bad comments concerning VIPRE.

My question is, Do I need to or Should I continue to use VIPRE since I have a registered version of malwarebytes Anti-malware? Isn't it bad to have two anti-virus programs running at the same time? Is there a benefit to running both?

Howdy,

Please realize that MBAM has no antivirus component. Whereas the Vipre product does.

You do need an antivirus, so I am suggesting you keep Vipre.

And yes, you can have both MBAM & Vipre running on this system.

Again, since MBAM is not an antivirus, you won't have 2 active antivirus apps (which if you did, is not smart practice & leads to deadlocks).

My guess, btw, is that you had a malware before, just not a virus.

My curiousness would lead me to have you re-review that MBAM log (pull up MBAM and click the Logs tab & review) to see what the item(s) that were removed were (ie, name of files & the description by MBAM).

As a sidebar note, Vipre is a reputable and well regarded product. I had Vipre (and CounterSpy) in the past.

Note ; The 2 companies are not "partners" , however they have been co operating together in the removal of infections -

Just wanted to clear up -- at this time, we are not looking to be bought out nor has Sunbelt made any type of offer. We are here to progress the fight against malware by combining two great tools into a single page for our customers.

Thank You - :)
