Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

firstly sorry to hijack TS's thread,

I encountered the same issue and thanks to kind soul here i managed to get my malwarebytes to update again,

but i got this question, i can only update if i temporary disable Norton internet security.

ok i read through the common issue page, i went around the exculsion thing, but i still ended up receiving the same error updating popup.

Im using Norton Internet Security 2006, this came default with my lappy when i first got it years back.

can expert please help me on this issue?

under this 'intrusion Prevention' i found this 'exclusions' and i added data-cdn.mbamupdates.com am i correct?

because i done that and clicked ok, i still cant update.

million thanks in advance

Greetings and welcome :D

Try adding simply mbamupdates.com as it may be blocking access to one of the other points where MBAM contacts the update servers. Hopefully that will get it working properly for you without having to disable Norton.

Please let us know if that helps or not.

Thanks :)

Your MBAM connection is probably blocked by firewall.

i checked through my firewall, i had added all the files which the common issue page stated, and set everything to permit all.

it still fail me in updating it.

Do you have the Add-On Pack installed which includes Parental Controls and Web Filtering components? If so, try disabling its features and see if you can then update.

I have to disable the norton internet security if i want to update, i didnt set anything nor do i switch on the parental controls.

checked the web filtering components none.

before i upgrade to this newest version, i didnt had this problem in updating.

despite i reformated my lappy, it still show the same problem.

sigh.

Norton Internet Security 2006 really giving me hard time now.

Since you're using version 2006, you might consider upgrading to the latest version. It's supposed to be much lighter on resources and it will likely correct the issues you're having with updating Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware. For the upgrading procedure please see the Version Upgrades FAQ on Symantec's website for information on how to upgrade for free :).

Thanks bro,

went to check out the symantec and realized that i dont have order number, i only have customer ID.

Because mine NIS came installed with my lap top, and each time i reformat my lap top, the NIS will be available again for 60 days.

I see, so it's just the trial version then. In that case I'd highly recommend removing NIS 2006 and either purchasing NIS 2010 or installing a different antivirus. If you're looking for alternatives, here are my personal recommendations along with links to downloads for them (free trials for those that require a purchase so you can try them before deciding):

Note: If you decide to use one of the trial versions of one of the paid antiviruses then you will either need to purchase it or uninstall it completely and install a replacement antivirus before the trial expires so that your PC is not left unprotected.

Also note that if using the paid version of Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware with your antivirus in realtime that it is generally a good idea to exclude Malwarebytes' files from your antivirus to avoid conflicts. The FAQ contains examples of setting file exclusions for some known AV products.

If you decide to remove NIS 2006, then download the AV you're going to replace it with first, but don't install it yet (this is so you have it ready to install after removing NIS 2006 and you aren't left without antivirus protection for any extended period of time, I don't want you to accidentally get infected :)).

Once you've got your new AV's installer downloaded, do the following to remove NIS 2006:

Remove all Norton products:

  • Download Norton Removal Tool from here and save it to your desktop
  • Double click on SymNRT.exe to run it and follow the onscreen instructions to proceed
  • Reboot your computer when it finishes to complete the removal process

Now it's time to install and update your new AV that you're replacing NIS 2006 with :).
