Hello. I continue to see the Update Error. I followed your instructions, and rebooted my machine 3 or 4 times in the process. My system has AVG, and the only setting it allows is to turn off resident shield, which I did for the install. I also have Computer Associates Firewall, and I entered a rule to allow mbam.exe through. I've checked the firewall logs and don't see any activity related to mbam. The box is XP Pro.

Please see this topic with regards to AVG. Also, if there is any sort of web filter in your AV or firewall, please exclude/trust the following site:
data-cdn.mbamupdates.com

I had already listed the mbam directory in the exceptions list for AVG Resident Shield, but I went ahead and added the entire list of files specified in the other post. Upon retrying the update function, the error persists so that virus definition updates are now effectively disabled.

Please let me know how I can revert to mbam 1.45 since that version didn't have this issue, and I have not changed anything in the environment.

I did some additional checking in the AVG History and the Computer Associates Firewall log. Neither has anything related to Antimalware. I also closely examined the update error I receive, and it is slightly different than the original poster:

MBAM_ERROR_UPDATING(122, 0, MultiByteToWideChar)

The data area passed to a system call is too small.

I apologize if I should have started a new thread. Any other suggestions are welcome, although I am confident that my system is sufficiently configured since v1.45 worked without error.

Which version of CA are you running? Look for either 'Identity Protection', 'Privacy' button or 'Internet Browser Protection' and add our update url:

data-cdn.mbamupdates.com

I have CA Security Center 3.2.1.19 and CA Personal Firewall 9.1.0.38. I only run the Firewall and do not use the email or web security services. I was unable to add that URL to the list of excepted websites because CA gave an error that it could not connect to it.

Please see my later post for a further update.

Just to get some extra information, please completely disable your Computer Associates firewall and try updating Malwarebytes again.

YEAH! That worked like a charm. I only run the CA Firewall, none of their other products, and was able to update Malwarebytes when I disabled it.

Now what do we do?
