juron99 Posted May 13, 2010 ID:249364 Share Posted May 13, 2010 This may not be considered malware but I can't seem to block this popup. It is an autoloader on my local home paper homepage that once you click on the site it loads an ad page in the background. It is provided by a site called Siteencore.com. Internet Explorer 8 in Windows7 tried to block it but couldn't. Any suggestions would be appreciated other than not visiting the webpage. Thanks, Ron
goldhound Posted May 13, 2010 ID:249609 Share Posted May 13, 2010 You may wish to consider using the Firefox browser instead of Internet explorer, it is generally accepted to be safer and faster than IE. You can get Adblock and No Script addons , then configure them to your liking. (There are many other addons available as well)Firefox download here
exile360 Posted May 13, 2010 ID:249628 Share Posted May 13, 2010 The use of a HOSTS file would also be a good solution, then you wouldn't have to switch browsers, and even if you did, it would still be blocked regardless of the browser being used. You can edit the HOSTS file yourself and add an entry for the ad site you wish to block and point it to 127.0.0.1. For more information on the HOSTS file and how to use it please see this page.
