Hello Joyce,

I would like to know what kind of antivirus/ internet security/ firewall (apart from the windows one)/ other security software(s) installed on that system before trying anything to fix.

Just a side note, do you have Service Pack 3 for your system? (You can know it by right click "My Computer", and choose "Properties". It will show under "System" in the "General" tab.)

Thank you.

Thanks for helping. I have Norton Internet Secruity (which I want to uninstall and switch for Trend Micro but I can't even find an uninstall button on my add/remove programs list. That's a whole different story) and Spybox S&D running. That's it.

Hello Joyce,

Let's assume you do not have any malware and virus on the machine first (I suppose so  ).

Let's try to add some files to Norton's exclusion list.

For Windows XP:

  • C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbam.exe
  • C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbamgui.exe
  • C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbamservice.exe
  • C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\zlib.dll
  • C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbam.dll
  • C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbamext.dll
  • C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\rules.ref
  • C:\Windows\System32\drivers\mbam.sys
  • C:\Windows\System32\drivers\mbamswissarmy.sys

The FAQ contains examples of setting file exclusions for some known AV products.

Please post back if you have further questions.

Thank you :)

Try these settings for NIS 2010

  • 2 weeks later...

I have had very similar problems and being a real techno novice could not work out how to add the links to my 'allowed list.

However, looking at the post that mentioned the Norton Parental and Privacy controls, I opened Norton and turned these off.

I was miraculously than able to run the MBAM update successfully !!!!

Thanks for the tip on this.

Hello,

i hope, that meanwhile MBAM is in discussion with Symantec to solve this problem!!!!!!

From my point of view i believe, that

MBAM is thinking, this is an Symantec issue

otherwise

Symantec is thinking, this i an MBAM issue.

Michael
