Failing to connect

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I am trying to fix my family's computer (while on college break no less), and discovered that MalwareBytes have the new virus definitions to take care of the virus that is plaguing the computer. I went to the program to update and 'lo and behold, my family has not updated the software since September. Tried to update it but the error 732 showed up. So I hunted the forums here and followed the instructions in fixing the issue. The problem is still unresolved as it will not update definitions or version. The computer does not have NetZero.

My problem is that the computer is infected with the Google Redirecting Virus, and they (my family) said that the problem has been happening for two weeks. As of now, the computer is useless. they cannot connect to any sites but facebook and CNN on that computer and, in my troubleshooting the problem, I had to resort to using my laptop to fix it. I cannot download any software on the infected computer, much less going to the sites directly like MalwareBytes or TrendMicro or any other security websites. Even manually typing in the URL. So, I'm afraid that I can't use this site to update MalwareBytes directly.

The computer is running Vista, on HP Pavilion, and they use all three browsers: IE7, Chrome and Firefox 3.5.

Your help is much appreciated!

I understand, but I wish to be able to update the software in order to take any further steps in diagnosing the problems.I knew about the thread in making logs that you linked to, and would have done that if I wasn't having connection issues with the software. I cannot update MalwareBytes, which is the only help I am requesting. The additional details that I gave about the virus is to illustrate that I cannot access the websites directly on the computer. If there's a command prompt that will let me update the software in DOS, that would be great.

Hi Tiffy,

I saw your post last night but unfortunately I had to get off the computer otherwise I was going to reply at that time

Please click here:

http://forums.malwarebytes.org/index.php?s...ost&p=49525

And see Issue #4. Make sure to update Mbam on the working computer prior to burning rules.ref if you are going that route.

Then if problems still persist, please do follow gtyhfy's directions! :)
