Check the antimalware stuff for CORRUPTION

Recommended Posts

:)include a check of anti-malware programs in scan as soon as possible

ON MARCH 15 I DOWNLOADED AN EXPLOIT TO MY COMPUTER!!

IT TOOK THREE WEEKS TO FIND IT BECAUSE:

IT targeted fix-it, MalwareBytes, Comodo, and the Sunbelt services; corrupting them into tools to damage my operating system. Nothing ever detetced any of these components as corrupt.

I finally got the system in somewhat good operating condition 2 days ago by using config.sys in SAFE mode to disable the relevant services.

Frankly this exploit has made me revenge minded. The exploit may not be on my Hard drive still, but if it is, I want to find it. I want to find everything it has done.

AT a minimum I want to find out how my protection programs differ from the installed version, and if there are traces of the original exploit. This is a serious infection which was NOT detected by my daily scans. I have purchased a new hard drive.

Over the weekend I am going to demount the compromised C: drive first archiving and burning to CD much as possible of what I think is suspect on it and install the new as C:, put in windows XP with some utilities etc., put a virtual drive above it, probe the CD's look for suspect stuff, and then install the old drive and image it.

I will then try ALL your suggestions on the old drive.

Would Malwarebytes be interested in a copy of the MB folder as it exists? I will add any related .dll etc. files to the archive Where I can find a list of installed files that should be there and their sizes etc.?

Hello , and welcome to Malwarebytes.org

Without it being live and detected its difficult to determine what files are affected and needed. In most cases our Pro version with live protection would already protect you from it. Its possible that it is, was a new one that we might not have known but we are one of the top vendors keeping up on this Malware daily around the clock.

I would highly recommend that you do review this link and if you think that you may still have some type of infection then seek assistance in the forum as shown below as well.

So how did I get infected in the first place?
