Hello Beatnik43, :)

Temporarily disable your Anti-Virus and then run the following to see if it resolves the issue or not. Make sure you use the link in this post to download a new version.

For Windows XP:

  1. Click on Start and select Control Panel
  2. Open Add/Remove Programs
  3. Uninstall Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
  4. Restart your computer very important
  5. Download and run mbam-clean.exe from here
  6. It will ask to restart your computer, please allow it to do so very important
  7. After the computer restarts, temporarily disable your Anti-Virus and install the latest version of Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from here

For Windows Vista and Windows 7:

  1. Click on the Start vista-7-start.png button and select Control Panel
  2. Click on Programs and Features
  3. Uninstall Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
  4. Restart your computer very important
  5. Download and run mbam-clean.exe from here
  6. It will ask to restart your computer, please allow it to do so very important
  7. After the computer restarts, temporarily disable your Anti-Virus and install the latest version of Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from here

Note:

  • You will need to reactivate the program using the license you were sent via email if using the Pro version
  • Launch the program and set the Protection and Registration. Then go to the UPDATE tab if not done during installation and check for updates.
Restart the computer again and verify that MBAM is in the task tray if using the Pro version. Now setup any file exclusions as may be required in your Anti-Virus/Internet-Security/Firewall applications and restart your Anti-Virus/Internet-Security applications. You may use the guides posted in the FAQ's here or ask and we'll explain how to do it.

Post back if you have further questions.

And which operating system (XP/ Vista/ 7) and Anti-Virus/Internet-Security/Firewall applications are you using?

Thanks :)

Due to there being several versions of VIPRE , have you done this yet -

For those using VIPRE PREMIUM and having problems with V1.45 and 1.46 updating, here is the fix.

-Open VIPRE

-click Web Filter Settings

-click Allowed Web Sites

-add "data-cdn.mbamupdates.com" (without the quotes)

-click OK

Close VIPRE

Now MBAM V1.45 will update normally.

Also this picture of VIPRE gives some details -

The good news - this fixed my immediate problem.

The bad news - when I run Malwarebytes and do a full scan, it starts out scanning fine but gets progressively pokier as it goes along (somewhere past the 120k files scanned mark, from what I've seen so far, although admittedly I haven't monitored it all that closely). Using the End Task function of Task Manager doesn't seem to work, and it takes several minutes from hitting Ctrl-Alt-Del to when the option to go to Task Manger comes up, then another few minutes from telling Windows 7 I want the task manager to when the task manager window actually comes up. :)
