I just updated from version 1.45 to version 1.46, it asked me twice to install the version 1.46 update, after the update finished installing I then tried to update the database and I got this error:

Malwarebyte's Anti-Malware

An error has occurred. Please report this error to our support team.

MBAM_ERROR_UPDATING (12002, 0, WinHttpQueryDataAvailable)

So I was thinking that I just had a bad update so I uninstalled version 1.46 and installed version 1.44 and then updated it to version 1.46 and then when I tried updating the database I get this error:

Malwarebyte's Anti-Malware

An error has occurred. Please report this error to our support team.

MBAM_ERROR_UPDATING (12007, 0, WinHttpSendRequest)

It is updating to version 1.46 fine and running fine, the scans find no malware, but when I try to update is when I get the errors.

I've been reading the forum and it seems a lot of people are having trouble with version 1.46 and its updates, is there anything that I can do to correct this problem other than way for version 1.47 to come out?

I have been using MBAM for a while and I think it's a great program it does a great job at keeping my computer malware free.

Hello B Trevathan,

Please try the following to see whether it solves your problem.

For Windows XP:

  1. Click on Start and select Control Panel
  2. Open Add/Remove Programs
  3. Uninstall Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
  4. Restart your computer very important
  5. Download and run mbam-clean.exe from here
  6. It will ask to restart your computer, please allow it to do so very important
  7. After the computer restarts, temporarily disable your Anti-Virus and install the latest version of Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from here

For Windows Vista and Windows 7:

  1. Click on the Start vista-7-start.png button and select Control Panel
  2. Click on Programs and Features
  3. Uninstall Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
  4. Restart your computer very important
  5. Download and run mbam-clean.exe from here
  6. It will ask to restart your computer, please allow it to do so very important
  7. After the computer restarts, temporarily disable your Anti-Virus and install the latest version of Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from here

Note:

  • You will need to reactivate the program using the license you were sent via email if using the Pro version
  • Launch the program and set the Protection and Registration. Then go to the UPDATE tab if not done during installation and check for updates.
Restart the computer again and verify that MBAM is in the task tray if using the Pro version. Now setup any file exclusions as may be required in your Anti-Virus/Internet-Security/Firewall applications and restart your Anti-Virus/Internet-Security applications. You may use the guides posted in the FAQ's here or ask and we'll explain how to do it.

Please post back if you have further questions.

Thank you. :D

Update/Edit:

I forgot to mention that it was connecting to the update server and it was trying to download the update and it would get to about 40% and then stop and go back to 0% and try again until I would get an error. Nothing seems to be blocking it, I tried to update it again an it went all the way to 100% and then gave me this error:

Malwarebyte's Anti-Malware

An error has occurred. Please report this error to our support team.

MBAM_ERROR_LOAD_DATABASE (0, 5)

When I clicked on "OK" the program closed so I reopened it and clicked "Check for Updates" and it said "You have the latest database version" I am being to think there are a few bugs in this version.

My current databse information has changed after the database update so the update must have installed, here is what it says that my current database information is:

Date: 5/4/2010

Database version:4067

Fingerprints loaded: 230010

Dear B Trevathan,

Please follow my advice above to see whether you have further problems. If not, post back with more information (eg what error code you received, the operating system (Win XP/Vista/7), name of Anti-Virus/Internet-Security/Firewall applications you have).

Thank you.

PS You seems to have the most updated database at this point of time. :D

I am not getting any errors after that last database update, when I click "Check for Updates" it just says "You have the latest database version" I think I now need to wait until a new database version comes out and see if I get any errors then.

Thanks for the help,

B Trevathan

Just update once again and compare with the following details, if it matches - then you don't have to worry as it is the most current (as of the time of post)

It was working but then it started giving errors again so I uninstalled and ran the MBAM cleanup utility and reinstalled, shutting down in between each time and on the first run I got one error I think it was MBAM_ERROR_LOAD_DATABASE (0, 5) but I think this was because I chose not to update it before the first start of the program, after the program started I updated it with no errors and so far I haven't got any errors. When I now check for updates it says "You have the latest database version." I guess only more time will tell.

Thanks for the help,

B Trevathan

Looked at other forums and found a Check Disk solved (found problems) for this error message -

CMD /C ECHO Y|CHKDSK C: /R | SHUTDOWN /R /T 30

Check disk code to enter into Run box -

@B Trevathan

Please perform what noknojon asks to do. In addition, you may exclude files of MBAM from your security programs. As you do not provide the information of your operating system and the antivirus/internet security/ firewall products you have, I have to list all the possible scenarios (So it is better for you to list the stuff needed when someone asks so  )

Exclude Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware's Files and Folders From Other Active Security Programs:

For Windows XP:

  • C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbam.exe
  • C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbamgui.exe
  • C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbamservice.exe
  • C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\zlib.dll
  • C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbam.dll
  • C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbamext.dll
  • C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\rules.ref
  • C:\Windows\System32\drivers\mbam.sys
  • C:\Windows\System32\drivers\mbamswissarmy.sys

For Windows Vista or Windows 7:

  • C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbam.exe
  • C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbamgui.exe
  • C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbamservice.exe
  • C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\zlib.dll
  • C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbam.dll
  • C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbamext.dll
  • C:\ProgramData\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\rules.ref
  • C:\Windows\System32\drivers\mbam.sys
  • C:\Windows\System32\drivers\mbamswissarmy.sys

For 64 bit versions of Windows Vista or Windows 7:

  • C:\Program Files (x86)\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbam.exe
  • C:\Program Files (x86)\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbamgui.exe
  • C:\Program Files (x86)\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbamservice.exe
  • C:\Program Files (x86)\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\zlib.dll
  • C:\Program Files (x86)\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbam.dll
  • C:\Program Files (x86)\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbamext.dll
  • C:\ProgramData\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\rules.ref
  • C:\Windows\System32\drivers\mbam.sys
  • C:\Windows\SysWoW64\drivers\mbamswissarmy.sys

Note: If using a software firewall besides the built in Windows Firewall you'll need to exclude MBAM.EXE from it as well

The FAQ contains examples of setting file exclusions for some known AV products.

Also, if your firewall and/or antivirus software has any sort of website protection or web guard then please add the following as a trusted/excluded site in your security software:

data-cdn.mbamupdates.com

Please post back if you have any further questions.

PS

  1. A quick trick to trigger a download of DB is to rename the rules.def to rules.def.old, then click the 'update' button.
  2. Please do not reply to any posts in the Malware Removal - HijackThis Logs forum except it is your own post about malware removal.
The policy there states that you need to be a trusted advisor, an expert, a mod or an admin to provide advice there.

Edit - adding information and making corrections to minor grammatical errors.

First, my anti-virus is Avast 5.0.507 and my firewall is Sygate Personal Firewall and my OS is Windows 2000

Second, as I posted I am not getting any errors now so why do you think running chkdsk would help? My computer is running fine the only problem that I did have was with MBAM after the version 1.46 update, I had no problems with MBAM version 1.45

Third, nothing is blocking MBAM, it has full access to the internet, I checked and rechecked nothing is blocking it, it connected to the update sever and would download around 40% of the update and then would drop down to 0% and then give the errors.

I get the same error message as the original poster using the free version. I had version 1.44 and got the same error message.

I followed the steps noted above:

1) Uninstalled MB

2) Turned off PC

3) Used the MB clean up tool and let it turn the PC off

4) Turned off virus protection

5) Reinstalled MB 1.46

6) Tried to update and got the same error message

7) Tried the CHDSK fix

8) Tried to update again and got the same error message

I run Win XP and my anti-virus software is CA Security

Any assistance would be appreciated. Thanks.

B Trevathan: Thanks a Zillion for confirmation. Actually I am looking for the exclusion list for Windows XP built-in Firewall. I don't have any other Security Product installed

@ Haider -

The standard Microsoft Firewall should not need exclusions - These are for 'after market' programs -

Do you use any anti virus or other firewall program - Malwarebytes is not an Antivirus program - It is a Malware removal program -

Please install some anti virus , even if you use Microsoft Security Essentials (free) from my live signature -

Thank You -

Thanks noknojon: Would I still need an Antivirus if I have a Full Version with Real-time protection enabled? How about VIPRE could these two go together with real-time protection because as far as I understand one MUST have only & only one antivirus/antimalware with real-time protection

Thanks once again

Please use ADDREPLY when responding to not repeat post when using '' REPLY

You need an anti virus application and Microsoft Security Essentials is good with MBAM Full or you can use avast! V5.

If you want a software firewall then Outpost Free is good.

Please do not post in Bold Blue
