Hello. I am only able to update Malwarebytes if I disable my Computer Associates Firewall. This occurs in 1.46 and did not occur in 1.45. The helpful folks on this forum figured out that this is my issue, so I would like to figure out a way to update without disabling the firewall.

I have CA Security Center 3.2.1.19 and CA Personal Firewall 9.1.0.38. I only run the Firewall and do not use the email or web security services. I was unable to add data-cdn.mbamupdates.com to the list of excepted websites because CA gave an error that it could not connect to it.

The specific error I receive Malwarebytes when I attempt to update without disabling the firewall is

MBAM_ERROR_UPDATING(122, 0, MultiByteToWideChar)

The data area passed to a system call is too small.

Thanks for your help.

Try some of these steps, though not sure if they will be the same:

CA 2010

Open 'My Internet' section.

If so open that up and click 'View Settings'.

Look for 'Identity Protection'

Scroll down to 'Trusted and Untrusted Sites'

Paste in the following:

data-cdn.mbamupdates.com

Tick 'Trusted Site-always allow'

Click 'Add'

Click 'Apply' and reboot

See if that helps

-------------------

In CA ISS 2007 and 2008:

Open the CA Personal Firewall GUI;

Click the 'Privacy' icon;

On the tab: "Internet Browser Protection", click the "Manage Sites" button;

In the 'manage sites' dialog box, click "Add";

In the 'URL' field, paste this URL:

data-cdn.mbamupdates.com

In each tab of that dialog box, make sure that no boxes are checked;

Click OK;

On the 'manage sites' dialog box, click 'Close";

Close CA Personal Firewall GUI.

2007 Identity Protection:

Open GUI

Click 'Privacy' button

On the left side, click 'Manage Sites' button

At the top right side, add the following url:

data-cdn.mbamupdates.com

Click 'Ok' close software

Greetings :)

You might try adding the following site to the exceptions instead to see if it can connect to that one:

mbamupdates.com

Hopefully that will get it working with the firewall enabled.

Please post back with your results.

Thanks :)

Hello. I entered the address in the CA Privacy section of the Personal Firewall. CA reports that it can not connect to the site and does not allow me to save the entry. I checked the site on a browser tab and only see a 404 page. I think that's why CA will not allow it. If there was an index page of some sort, I could include the update site in the CA whitelist.

That worked today. I tried this exact process last week and CA would not allow me to save the entry, saying it could not connect to data-cdn.mbamupdates.com . Trying data-cdn.mbamupdates.com in a browser tab, I now see a "Forbidden" message, so it appears that an index page was added to that site, allowing CA to get an http response.

Thank you!

Glad that worked out for you.
