New Fake Antivirus Rogue?

Recommended Posts

This morning I got hit with one of those fake anti-virus software programs that somehow installed on my machine. I can't remember the exact name, but it was partially green, and had a green icon with a checkmark in the system tray. I believe I got rid of it by doing System Restore in Windows XP.

I have Malwarebytes set to update once a day, and to scan once a week. This was also not picked up by Avast Anti-Virus software on my machine, so I was surprised nothing detected this.

Why wasn't this detected? Should I be updating and scanning more often?

Thanks.

Look at PCommander removal:

I update hourly and run a scan daily on my XP Pro sytem.

Do you have the paid version with resident protection and Web site blocking enabled?

Yes, I have the paid version, but I disabled web site blocking because I found it to be annoying since it would keep popping up. Well, I guess lesson learned, and I will re-enable web site blocking immediately.
