Resetting HOSTS file

Recommended Posts

After following your instructions to remove the My Security Engine malware, I get to Step 2 Reset HOSTS file

I run Malwarebytes Anti-malware, open the Tools tab and under File ASSAssin click the Run Tool button

In the open window I navigate to C->Windows->System32->Drivers-> and this is where I am having trouble. Your instructions ask me to continue navigating to etc yet there is no etc option to select. Where do I go from here?

I did go to Microsoft's Support site to use their Microsoft Fix It to reset the hosts file back to the default. Is this all I need to do?

Another question is should I deleted all that Malwarebytes quarantined?

Any help is appreciated.

As long as your hosts file is set back to the default that should be fine. As for removing files from quarantine you don't need to do that right away as they're safe there. Typically you should run your system for at least a few days to ensure that some file was not removed as a False Positive. That way if you needed the file back you could get it back. If all seems okay after a few days and scans continue to come back clean then you can empty the quarantine if you like.

Also please take a look at the following: So how did I get infected in the first place?
