I miss version 1.44 using Windows scheduling

Recommended Posts

With version 1.44, I was able to run MB using Windows task scheduler. I ran it this way because I did not want to run MB in the system tray along with NO32 in the background. I prefer to run this type of scan weekly to the schedule I determine without running it in the background.

With the latest versions 1.45 and 1.46, is there a way to setup it again using Windows task scheduler?

Hi Executioner

HERE is one of the links to earlier versions, including 1.44 - If you update at all you will get version 1.46 now -

The MBAM scheduler as it exists now was for 1.45 and later (if you have the paid version) - You will need to work around this by not ticking updates -

Hope this is what you want - You will need to remove the current version - See below -

To Fully Remove and Reinstall a Fresh New Copy of Malwarebytes - Read Carefully

Windows XP:

  • Click on Start and select Control Panel
  • Open Add/Remove Programs
  • Uninstall Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
  • Restart your computer very important !
  • Download and run mbam-clean.exe from here

It will ask to restart your computer, please allow it to do so, very important

After the computer restarts, temporarily disable your Anti-Virus and install the earlier version of Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from the link I have left above -

Note: You will need to reactivate the program using the license you were sent via email if using the Pro version only -

Launch the program and set the Protection and Registration. Then do not go to the UPDATE tab if not done during installation and check for updates.

Restart the computer again and verify that MBAM is in the task tray if using the Pro version. Now setup any file exclusions as may be required in your

Anti-Virus/Internet-Security/Firewall applications and restart your Anti-Virus/Internet-Security applications. You may use the guides posted in the FAQ's here or ask me and I'll explain how to do it.

Windows Vista and Windows 7:

Thanks for the information, but I rather not go through all those steps, and I am a paid customer. I bought the product because the earlier versions worked perfectly for me. I ran it went I wanted to run it using the Windows scheduler. It would update before the scan started. It would run and check every file then terminate. I really don't like having it run all the time in the background if I already have NOD32 running. Maybe the next version will perform like 1.44 as it seems several people are having issues with 1.45/46.

The scheduler does not run all the time in the back ground unless you set the schedules up, so I'm at a loss as to what the actual issue is here?

You can set the updating and scans as frequently as you like or not at all.

Hi Tom,

The issue is I miss the way MB worked as version 1.44, as I did not have it running in the background at all. Once a week, it would auto run from the windows scheduler, update itself, and scan all the files. The new version runs in the background which I don't want to do since I already have NO32 running. I do the same with SuperAntiSpyware.

then i guess you don't know how to set up the scheduler.

You can set it to run once a week if you like. What is it that you think is 'running in the back ground'?

Executioner,

By "running in the background," are you referring to MBAM's real-time (RT) protection module, expressed as an MBAM icon down in your computer's systray? If so, you can turn off the protection module by deselecting it in the application (I believe the tab is named "Protection"). Do not confuse MBAM's RT protection feature with separately scheduling updates and scans (at the intervals you choose), now done, starting with ver. 1.45, within the MBAM application, and not through Windows Scheduled Tasks.

Yes per your question.

I have deselected the protection, but MB is still in the system tray. Enable protection and Website Blocking are unchecked. Is this the proper way to have it start automatically scanning? I have created to 2 schedules to run every Saturday. The first is an update at 12:01AM. Then at 12:10AM the full scan starts. What about the option of "Start with Windows"?

Once I click on the schedule tab it enables the protection.

You should be able to uncheck Start with Windows and the scheduled scans and updates should still be performed.

As for the issue with clicking on the Scheduler button, this is a known issue and is being looked into by the developers, hopefully to be corrected in the next version (1.47) of Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware.

For now, once you've scheduled the items you wish to schedule, just uncheck the Start with Windows option and reboot your computer and Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware's tray icon should not be present but the scheduled tasks you created should run as scheduled.
