I have a lot of the same issues as a lot of the recent posters. After several days, and much reading, I downloaded ComboFix and ran it several times. This cleared up 99% of my issues except the ability to run MBAM from the .exe file. I had to rename it so it would run, and after I got it going, it will not update definitions. I uninstalled it entire program and tried to re-install it, but now I get the error code "714 (0,9)" about 2/3 of the way through the install process. It will finish installing, but will still not run from the .exe file, and still will not update!

Does anyone have any ideas - I am ready to pull out what little hair I have left. These latest trojans and viruses were NASTY!

Thanks

Billh

Hello Billh, :)

First point to note, combofix may lead to system failure if it is not use properly. It is used under the guidence of trianed malware fighters (or experts).

The error code comes from the old version of MBAM (version number up to 1.44), and the new definiation databases are not quite compatable with older versions of MBAM. So, please do the following first...

For Windows XP:

  1. Click on Start and select Control Panel
  2. Open Add/Remove Programs
  3. Uninstall Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
  4. Restart your computer very important
  5. Download and run mbam-clean.exe from here
  6. It will ask to restart your computer, please allow it to do so very important
  7. After the computer restarts, temporarily disable your Anti-Virus and install the latest version of Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from here

For Windows Vista and Windows 7:

  1. Click on the Start vista-7-start.png button and select Control Panel
  2. Click on Programs and Features
  3. Uninstall Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
  4. Restart your computer very important
  5. Download and run mbam-clean.exe from here
  6. It will ask to restart your computer, please allow it to do so very important
  7. After the computer restarts, temporarily disable your Anti-Virus and install the latest version of Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from here

Note:

  • You will need to reactivate the program using the license you were sent via email if using the Pro version
  • Launch the program and set the Protection and Registration. Then go to the UPDATE tab if not done during installation and check for updates.
Restart the computer again and verify that MBAM is in the task tray if using the Pro version. Now setup any file exclusions as may be required in your Anti-Virus/Internet-Security/Firewall applications and restart your Anti-Virus/Internet-Security applications. You may use the guides posted in the FAQ's here or ask and we'll explain how to do it.

Then please run a MBAM scan. If problem still exists, or if you like an expert to clean your infected system for free, then please do the following-

@Bill

You are welcome, Bill :)

Just a side note, use "ADD REPLY" button at the top or bottom of the page instead of "REPLY" button at every reply when you want to reply (I guess you have tried that :))

If you want to address someone in a topic where there are more people is talking, you can also use @[a person name], like what I did at the start of this reply :)

Hope it helps and your system is back to normal.

Cheers.

I wanted to run Malwarebytes to see if I had a virus problem, but when I tried to open the program, it wouldn't run. So my thought was to uninstall Malwarebytes, then reinstall - thought maybe something got corrupted. However, I could not uninstall - either from the control panel or from the program's uninstall feature. Every time I tried to uninstall, I got the message: error code 714 (0,9). I found this message thread, tried deactivating my anti-virus program (AVG) and then running uninstall from the control panel - got the same error message. Whatever I got - it won't let me uninstall the Malwarebytes program. How do I deal with this? Any suggestions? Thanks,

Wilson
