Recently been trying to remove the xp defender pro 2010 virus from an XP OS SP3 (computer is P4 with 1.25GB RAM and 2.66GHz).

it's stopped popping up and prompting upgrades to full version etc. but there remain some unresolved issues.. perhaps additional malware/ spyware.. google is redirecting and on one of the user areas (not all) applications (.exe) will not run, instead the 'open with what application' window comes up.

i used portable SOS in safe mode and removed some trojans etc. and have also downloaded the full version and run that but When I install Malwarebytes I've been getting a runtime error and can't update or use it to scan..

tried following the steps here ( http://forums.malwarebytes.org/index.php?s...amp;#entry49525 ) under issue 5 to remove and reinstall but this didn't work for me. When I try to run the tool I get the error: "SHGetValue failed with error code 0".

Any help greatly appreciated..

do i need permission to post an HJT log? mine isn't uploading..

Many Thanks!

Hello TitusOates,

Make sure you are logged in with an administrator-rights account.

Download and save FixExe.reg from

http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/reg/a...2010/FixExe.reg

Right-click on the FixExe.reg file. When Windows prompts whether or not you want to allow the data to be added to your computer, click on Merge.

Please print out, read and follow the directions here, skipping any steps you are unable to complete.

Please reply here with the DDS logs

the GMER log
