Malwarebytes freezes attempting tor emove malware

Recommended Posts

I'm a newbie on this forum and I browsed to see if there was anyone with a similar problem as mine. I found a lot on freezes, but they all related to the scanning process. My problem is my Malwarebytes (subsequently referred to as M/B, since I'm inherently lazy) runs and scans fine. But after finding 5 malware items at scan completion, when I select them all and hit "remove", everything, screen, cursor, etc., freezes. I have uninstalled M/B, rebooted, cleaned out all the related files with the M/B cleaning utility, rebooted again, reinstalled the latest version and ran a full scan only to see the same thing occur. Same malware found , same immediate freeze upon hitting the remove button. I about to try it again in "Safe Mode with Network" , but I thought I would get this on its way in the meantime to see if if any one else has had and solved this problem. I have never had a problem with M/B for years on my XP, but this is happening on my Vista laptop. The five malware items are Trojan Vundo in my registry (HKey-current-user\software\micro) and four ADware MyWeb, three in Registry and one in program files\funweb products. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Hello xdryrobroy, and welcome to the forums here at Malwarebytes.org :)

Please read the following so that you may begin the cleaning process:

We don't work on Malware removal in the general forums.

Please read and follow the directions here, skipping any steps you are unable to complete. Then post a NEW topic here.

One of the expert helpers there will give you one-on-one assistance when one becomes available.

Please note that it may take 48 hours or more for you to receive a response in the malware removal forum, as it is often busy at times. Please do not reply to your own post asking for help unless its been more than 48 hours since you originally posted, as this can make it appear as though you are being helped and take longer for you to get help.

If you are unable to do all or any of the steps in the link to the directions above, just post your problem into the forum I gave you a link to anyway and someone will be able to assist you.

Also, when replying, please use the "ADD REPLY" button located at the bottom of the page, as this makes the forum easier to read.

After posting your new post make sure under options that you select Track this topic and choose one of the Email options so that you're alerted when someone has replied to your post.

Thank you :)

Hello mountaintree16,

Thanks for your welcome and response. I checked-out the links you provided and I think I may not have explained my concern clearly. I am not concerned about the malware that was found. What I need to know is why the Malwarebytes application freezes the computer when I hit "remove". Is it a possible conflict with my anti-virus program? I would think that would surface during the start-up or scanning process. I apologize for not being more clear concerning my problem.

Thanks

You're welcome xdryrobroy :)

Your computer may be freezing when you try to remove the detected items because the malware could be interfering with your doing so.

You COULD be having a conflict with your antivirus though, it is a possibility. Other than this, have you had any issues between Malwarebytes and your AV program? What is your AV program by the way?
