mysterious Windows update message

Recommended Posts

I booted up and got a message from Windows saying that it had done an automatic update that involved a reboot. But there was no mention of this when I last turned off the computer. It's not possible Microsoft turned on my computer to perform an update, is it? If not, then what happened here?

As AdvancedSetup mentioned it is normal.

The message Windows generates can be inaccurate. It may state that the system initiated the system restart in order to complete the update, when in fact, I was the one who had shut down the night before, and then started my system the next day. The canned message should be deleted if the system restart is initiated by the user, but it often is not. I have also seen this happen under Windows XP
