ave.exe - removed, but still hijacked

Recommended Posts

My computer seems to be infected with the ave.exe virus. I followed instructions to remove the virus from the system by deleting the file, clearing registry entries, etc, but the browser still seems to be hijacked/infected because everytime I open Firefox it flashes a dark red...I thought "weird"...but also when i try to search onn Google and I click a result, I am redirected somewhere else.

here is my hijackthis log:

Hi and welcome to Malwarebytes.

Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from Here or Here

Double Click mbam-setup.exe to install the application.

  • Make sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select "Perform Quick Scan", then click Scan.
  • The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart.(See Extra Note)
  • The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
  • Copy and Paste the entire report in your next reply along with a fresh HijackThis log.

Extra Note:

If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove,you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts,click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process, if asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately.

Please do not wrap your logs in quote marks.

Next, download DDS by sUBs and save it to your Desktop.

Double-click on the DDS icon and let the scan run. When it has run two logs will be produced, please post the one that is not minimized.

@screen317

Thanks,

I think I got it removed...but, whenever I ran malware bytes, even from the beginning of the issues, it kept coming up that the system was clean. I was following the suggestions from this post, and I believe it worked. http://forums.malwarebytes.org/index.php?showtopic=43695

Hi,

I see. Well let's check to make sure the infection is fully gone.

First, run DDS but this time post DDS.txt instead of attach.txt

Next, please visit this webpage for instructions for running ComboFix:

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/combofix/how-to-use-combofix

  • When the tool is finished, it will produce a report for you.
  • Please post the C:\ComboFix.txt along with a new DDS log so we may continue cleaning the system.

Hi,

I notice that you are using more than one antivirus program (AVG and Norton). This is very dangerous, as multiple AVs can interfere with one another and actually allow MORE viruses to get through. I strongly suggest you go to Start -> Control Panel -> Add or Remove Programs and uninstall all but one antivirus program.

Let me know what you decide to do.

Actually, I only have AVG, I can't get rid of norton and don't see it anywhere, not in control panel, not in start menu, and not in taskbar...I want to keep AVG, but even that...there is currently no way to know that it is running without visiting the task manager (as shown in the image...don't know why there are duplicates of some processes...)

Hi,

Please open Notepad. Copy and paste the following text (starting with @echo off) into the Notepad document.

Navigate to File --> Save As..., and save the file as RegExport.bat (make sure the Save As Type is set to All Files).

Save it to your Desktop.

@echo off
REGEDIT.exe /E "%userprofile%\DESKTOP\drivers32.reg" "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\windows nt\currentversion\drivers32"

Now navigate to your Desktop, and double click RegExport.bat

A black window will open and close quickly. This is normal.

Now, open Notepad, navigate to your Desktop, and open drivers32.reg; post its contents.

Hi,

Please delete your copy of ComboFix, download the latest version from here, and save it to your Desktop. Do not run it yet.

Next, please open Notepad - don't use any other text editor than notepad or the script will fail.

Copy/paste the text in the quotebox below into Notepad:

Registry::

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\windows nt\currentversion\drivers32]

"aux"=-

"aux"="wdmaud.drv"

KILLALL::

Save this as CFScript

Then drag the CFScript into ComboFix.exe as you see in the screenshot below.

CFScriptB-4.gif

This will start ComboFix again. After reboot, (in case it asks to reboot), post the contents of Combofix.txt in your next reply together with a new DDS log.
