Can't Run Malwarebytes

Recommended Posts

New Dell Inspiron Desktop with 3GB Intel, 650 GB HD, 6 GB Ram and Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit. Downloaded and installed latest version of Malwarebytes and cannot run it. Starts out fast, slows to a crawl and locks up every time at about 17 minutes. I've used it many times on my XP machine and a Vista machine with no problems. Am I supposed to change the compatibility settings or something for this program to run on Windows 7?

Thanks

Tim

Hi timbuk2 -

Have you been trying to run a Quick Scan - This is all you need for the moment -

Also, first please try this on the computer that is having an issue.

1. Uninstall Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware using Add/Remove programs in the control panel.

2. Restart your computer (very important).

3. Download and run this utility. mbam-clean.exe

4. It will ask to restart your computer (please allow it to).

5. After the computer restarts, install the latest version from here. mbam-setup.exe

This just ensures you have a fresh clean copy of the program - Please try this and then post back -

Thank You - :P

I have never seen the problem with Mbam but many times with Sas where Windows Defender blocks it. You might want to disable it in Control panel, Admin Tools, Services and click it open and disable it. Then make sure you remove the "startup entry in "Run(from Search Menu),msconfig,ok,startup" hit app;ly and ok so it doesn't bother you every bootup. Oh and Windows Defedner I disable on every pc I touch with Vista or Win 7 so not to worry, it's what I call the "placebo" of malware prevention anyway.
