Computer starts a Windows scan and claims I'm infected.

Recommended Posts

Hi gang. This is my 1st post so I hope to explain this properly. My gal pal sometimes surf the porn sites. I have the free version of Malwarebytes and the paid version of Zone Alarm Internet Security Suite. ZA has anti-spyware and anti virus protection, along with email protection. It has OS Firewall and regular Firewall. While surfing, as happens in porn sites, you will ocassionally get redirects and suddenly my screen redirects to My Computer section that says my computer is infected and is scanning for voruses. I've learned in the past that the longer you stay on the page, the more infected it becomes. I pull up Task Manager and close apps. I run Malwarebyte and ZA and it says I'm clean? My computer seems to run a tad slower and the redirects still happen. I downloaded Hijackthis to look into it deeper. Not sure what to look for? I have Windowa XP Home. Version 2002, service pack 3. AMD Sempron processor 3200+. 1.80 GHz, 1.93 GB of RAM (I upgraded the Ram amount but can't go larger on the CPU which might explain my app hang ups that get) I clean my computer often with Revo Uninstaller. I ran Hijackthis but don't know what I'm looking for. Any help as to why it's saying I have an infected computer yet Malwarebytes and ZA come up clean? Here is the log scan.

Hi Dynamicdave And Welcome to Malwarebytes!

Please note that these fixes are not instantaneous. Most infections require more than one round to properly eradicate.

Stay with me until given the 'all clear' even if symptoms diminish. Lack of symptoms does not always mean the job is complete.

Kindly follow my instructions and please do no fixing on your own or running of scanners unless requested by me or another helper.

Please download ComboFix from

Here or Here to your Desktop.

**Note: In the event you already have Combofix, this is a new version that I need you to download. It is important that it is saved and renamed following this process directly to your desktop**

  1. If you are using Firefox, make sure that your download settings are as follows:
    • Tools->Options->Main tab
    • Set to Always ask me where to Save the files.

[*]During the download, rename Combofix to Combo-Fix as follows:

CF_download_FF.gif

CF_download_rename.gif

[*]It is important you rename Combofix during the download, but not after.

[*]Please do not rename Combofix to other names, but only to the one indicated.

[*]Close any open browsers.

[*]Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.

-----------------------------------------------------------

  • Very Important! Temporarily disable your anti-virus, script blocking and any anti-malware real-time protection before performing a scan. They can interfere with ComboFix or remove some of its embedded files which may cause unpredictable results.
  • Click on this link to see a list of programs that should be disabled. The list is not all inclusive. If yours is not listed and you don't know how to disable it, please ask.

    -----------------------------------------------------------

  • Close any open browsers.
  • WARNING: Combofix will disconnect your machine from the Internet as soon as it starts
  • Please do not attempt to re-connect your machine back to the Internet until Combofix has completely finished.
  • If there is no internet connection after running Combofix, then restart your computer to restore back your connection.

-----------------------------------------------------------

[*]Double click on combo-Fix.exe & follow the prompts.

[*]When finished, it will produce a report for you.

[*]Please post the C:\Combo-Fix.txt for further review.

**Note: Do not mouseclick combo-fix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall**

Hi Kenny. I won't be able to start on this till tomorrow night. I was coming down with the flu yesterday and I'm now fully into the thick of a whole different type of "virus," namely the "human flu virus." Also, I have to get up at 6am to get ready to take my dad to two doctor appointments, I will start on it tomorrow evening. Also, I have COX bundle package so that when I lose Internet service, I lose phone service. I need to do this late evening when we won't need the phones. So please bear with me as we go through this. Thanks.
