Amethyst Posted March 9, 2010 ID:211697 Share Posted March 9, 2010 Can one of you experts tell me what the 3M section of a DDS report contains? What do the entries there indicate? Thanks.
Amethyst Posted March 9, 2010 Author ID:211709 Share Posted March 9, 2010 I'm asking these questions and looking over this stuff myself because I just happened to see late this afternoon that a high volume of packets had been received by my desktop computer today, and I can't really think of why that is. I don't automatically update anything, and the only thing I did update this morning was Microsoft Security Essentials. There was some browsing done with Opera and Firefox, but no big downloads to explain that volume. Even trying to convert packets to bytes (and I can't find any conclusive information about that either), the volume shown just doesn't make sense. The DDS report in the 3M section shows a funny looking little thing called KgyGaAvl.sys in my system 32 folder. It's a hidden file. I am finding mixed information on that online, like that it is connected to the Divx video system, as well, and scans at Virustotal and Jotti don't tell me much about this thing, other than that it's clean. But it has no properties listed other than size and date. And I don't want to bug any of the malware fighters unless I have a good reason. Actually, my laptop showed a higher than usual download as well, which I also can't account for, so I don't know what's up with that. I'm just gathering information at the moment. Amethyst Posted March 9, 2010 Author ID:211713 Share Posted March 9, 2010 Hmm, I don't know, maybe it is all heavier than usual browsing. I wish I had looked on the weekend because I was online a LOT then. I'll keep an eye on stuff anyway. I would still like to know what the "Find 3M" part means, though. And that little oddball .sys file, I just don't know what to think of it.
