Windows Freeze

Recommended Posts

Greetings and welcome to Malwarebytes

Please do the following so I can attempt to assist you in determining the cause of the intermittent freezing you're having:

Create an Autoruns Log:

  • Please download Sysinternals Autoruns from here.
  • Save Autoruns.exe to your desktop and double-click it to run it.
  • Once it starts, please press the Esc key on your keyboard.
  • Now that scanning is stopped, click on the Options button at the top of the program and select Verify Code Signatures
  • Once that's done press the F5 key on your keyboard, this will start the scan again, this time let it finish.
  • When it's finished, please click on the File button at the top of the program and select Save and save the Autoruns.arn file to your desktop and close Autoruns.
  • Right click on the Autoruns.arn file on your desktop and hover your mouse over Send To and select Compressed (zipped) Folder
  • Attach the Autoruns.zip folder you just created to your next reply

Thanks :P

Hello again :P

Do you have any automatic backups that are set to run? I'm referring to the built in Windows 7 Backup and Restore utility. The reason I ask is because there is currently a known issue where backups can cause a system freeze with MBAM running in the background, but this has been corrected in the upcoming version of Malwarebytes.

Aside from that, I noticed this entry in your Autoruns log and was wondering if you could explain what it is as I couldn't find any info about it:

\{DBA03C82-1A1C-4F1C-B2FD-65E10F4CF4B5} Global Operations Client (Not verified) Barking Dog Studios d:\program files\crave\global operations\globalops.exe

It is listed under your Scheduled Tasks.

Thanks :)

Oh, ok :P. I was just checking. As for the automated backups, if you never set it up then it shouldn't be running but you can check by clicking on the Start vista-7-start.png button and typing Backup and it should be the first item listed. Check to see if scheduled backups have been configured, and if they have, you can turn it off.

You can use the steps in this tutorial which will explain how to turn it on, as well as how to turn it off :).

Please let me know if it resolves it or not.

Thanks :)

It should be out soon, although I'm not sure exactly how soon. This topic provides details on the upcoming features as well as some time estimates.

One more thing you should try is setting complete exclusions for Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware's files in Kaspersky:

  • C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbam.exe
  • C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbamgui.exe
  • C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbamservice.exe
  • C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\zlib.dll
  • C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbam.dll
  • C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbamext.dll
  • C:\ProgramData\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\rules.ref
  • C:\Windows\System32\drivers\mbam.sys
  • C:\Windows\System32\drivers\mbamswissarmy.sys

A tutorial on how to exclude/trust files and folders for Kaspersky products can be found here.

Please make sure that for each file and process that you exclude, that you select all 4 checkboxes:

  • Do not scan opened files
  • Do not monitor application activity
  • Do not monitor child application activity
  • Do not scan network traffic

Please let me know if this resolves the issues.

Thanks :P
