RunDLL32.exe corrupted or damaged

Recommended Posts

Problem started with XP AntiSPyware 2010. Initially MBAM wouldn't run. restarted in safe mode, ran MBAM, cleaned up 21 infections, didn't find the trojan, rebooted, now able to run MBAM, updated from web, ran MBAM again, now found spyware/virus infections including trojan.fakealert, cleaned it up, seemed all well and good but now no apps will startup unless you click on a data file like a Word Doc. When trying to open My Computer Properties, it displays a frame with Control Panel.. C:\Windows\System32\RunDLL32.exe Application not found.

You guy were so helpful last year when I was helping a friend with a sever rootkit infection. Now let's see what it takes to finish up this clean-up.

Thanks

Hello ERC, and welcome to Malwarebytes.org

We don't work on Malware removal in the general forums.

Please print out, read and follow the directions here, skipping any steps you are unable to complete. Then post a NEW topic here.

One of the expert helpers there will give you one-on-one assistance when one becomes available.

After posting your new post make sure under options that you select Track this topic and choose one of the Email options so that you're alerted when someone has replied to your post.

Please note that it may take 72 hours or more for you to receive a response in the malware removal forum, as it is often busy at times. Please do not reply to your own post asking for help unless its been more than 72 hours since you originally posted, as this can make it appear as though you are being helped and take longer for you to get help.
