Malware just won't run - disappears

Recommended Posts

I installed Malware on my desktop and it works just fine and saved me from a Trojan virus. I downloaded Malware onto my laptop tonight - Windows XP - and it shows the icon on the desktop. You click on the icon, the program opens and you choose full scan and hit scan. A very quick little screen pops up with discs C and D listed on it and then disappears. Then the whole program shuts down, disappears and absolutely NOTHING happens. You double click on the icon again, the program starts, you do the whole thing over again with the same results. I'm am NOT techo geek savvy. I need simple instructions in simple English if anyone knows why this might be happening. I have Webroot on both computers and it did not interfere with anything on my desktop. B) B) Frustrated

Hello realitycheck, and welcome to the forums here at Malwarebytes.org B)

Do you have any reason to believe that your XP laptop may be infected? This could account for it closing very quickly after being opened.

As a side note, when replying, please use the "ADD REPLY" button at the bottom of the page.

Thank you B)

Long story short, someone from Malware support had me do a few things - wayyyyy over my head technically. Only 3 small items were found on a quick scan - easily removed - no change whatsoever in Malware working. There is some technical mumbo jumbo about something blocking Malware from running in some root file. It is all foreign to me. I'm waiting - and waiting - for someone from tech support to get back to me. I've sent them files of something and they are supposed to be looking at it. Anyway, the program is loaded properly. Something just makes it completely disappear within 2 seconds of starting a scan and I have absolutely no idea why. Frustrating.

You have made 5 replies to the Help Desk in less than an hour. I'm sorry but we just are not able to respond to anyone in such a short time frame. Sometimes depending on what is going on it can take a day or two to sort it out. You need to be patient and wait for the support team to mail you back. They do not work 24 hours a day 7 days a week but we do try to assist you as quickly as possible.

Thank you and try to relax and be patient and they will get you fixed up as soon as they can.

We're still waiting for this user to reply to the last request to download a file and run it.

Nothing complicated there.

Save the file to desktop, double-click, attach log.
