Malwarebytes won't run - problems when following procedure

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I have not been able to run Malwarebytes for a while now, and went into the forums to see if I could fix the problem.

I began following the procedures for defogging and running the gmerootkit, when my computer all of a sudden decided to shut down and restart.

I disabled the CD ROM, and had started the scan on the rootkit, so now I'm not entirely sure if I need to start over from the beginning of the procedures or at the point of the scan where my computer shut down. I'm afraid also to just quit because I disabled something and the instructions told me not to reenable it until I was given instructions to do so, and not to push the disable button more than once!!

I'm fairly hopeless when it comes to the technical stuff, but can usually follow directions pretty well, so please help me!

Also, this is my very first time in a forum, and I'm not very familiar with all the rules so if I'm in the wrong place, please direct me to the right place.

Thank you,

Okay, so right after I posted on this topic, my computer did the same thing that it did when I was running the rootkit scan and restarted. This time I was able to copy the warning that popped up before it quit:

System shutdown

Windows must now restart because the

Remote Procedure Call (RPC) service

terminated unexpectedly.

Windows will shutdown in __ seconds

and it counts down from 1 minute.

I'm willing to bet that it will do the same thing after I've posted this.

Please help!
