Cannot re-install MBAM

Recommended Posts

A few days ago I had to uninstall Malwarebytes due to some errors and I tried reinstalling it and this is the error I keep getting, no matter how many times I uninstall it and try to reinstall it. I'm guessing it's because I have some pieces of MBAM still left on my system or something and it's just preventing installation again.

Whenever I HAVE tried to reinstall it this is what it looks like in my start menu and when I click on it it says "The item 'mbam.exe' that this shortcut refers to has been changed or moved, so this shortcut will no longer work properly. Do you want to delete this shortcut?'

I've tried using the MBAM clean program but I get an error with that too:

SHGetValue failed with error code 0.

Try to uninstall it with the removal tool as follows and Post back your progress please !!![/b]

Please try this on the computer that is having an issue.

1. Uninstall Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware using Add/Remove programs in the control panel.

2. Restart your computer (very important).

3. Download and run this utility. mbam-clean.exe

4. It will ask to restart your computer (please allow it to).

5. After the computer restarts, install the latest version from here. mbam-setup.exe

Note: You will need to reactivate the program using the license you were sent

Launch the program and set the Protection and Registration. Then go to the UPDATE tab if not done during installation and check for updates.

Restart the computer again and verify that MBAM is in the task tray and that you can run a quick scan and all is working as expected.

....I can't run MBAM-Clean. I get the same error as stated in my first post.

AV is short for Anti-Virus Program... Let us know which one you have please? Because, there may be some Malwarebyte files that have to be excluded by your Anti Virus Program

You can look at Section F for an example: http://forums.malwarebytes.org/index.php?showtopic=10138 But please post your AV program.... regards...

It's possible that you could be infected with malware which is deleting mbam.exe on installation.

Please try to run MBAM using this method:

http://forums.malwarebytes.org/index.php?showtopic=29028

If MBAM will run, update it and do a Quick Scan to see if you are infected with anything.
