Looking for USB/Portable Write Drive Protection

Gooday mates:

I have a 1GB USB memory stick and my 120 GB Maxtor portable drive

Certain USB flash drives comes with write protector switch in them, so you can write protect the USB flash / pen drive or make them read only drives. it is the case of my small memory stick

But what happens If the write protection feature is missing in the USB flash/pen drive or portable drive?

I'm concerned about my 120 GB Maxtor portable drive which has not that feature. It is NTFS and I would like to connect it to any machine without worries of getting infected and lose my info stored there.

So my question is:

1-Which tool is the most convenient, faster, safer and so on for my 120 GB Maxtor portable drive (NTFS System file)

2-Please explain as much as you can your answer

Just by a write protect flash drive to use to clean up the mess..... They are not that expensive, like this one for example....
