Malware that can disable Norton Internet Security?

Recommended Posts

i heard about malware that could mess with Norton internet Security's registry files, is this true?, because that sounds scary

Yes, it's possible with any antimalware program. Norton is just a bigger target due to how many people use them to protect their machine.

yes it is true indeed. Malware first targets the users antivirus software and disables it, once it is disabled, the malware downloads other malware and viruses to your computer taking it over, and the antivirus software has no chance of detecting it cause it is disabled.

This is why it is important to run layered protection like Antivirus and Malwarebytes for example.

My guess it is a rogue the kill's all security software. One rogue was able to get pass Defensewall and destroy it but it has been fixed in version 3.

i cud very well be a rogue security software, i don't care what these security experts on here say, Norton got destroyed, totally controlled, i already knew that malware can disable a security program but i never knew it could do anything it wanted with it.

Defensewall is a very good program, so if malware can get get past that and annihilate it, then i think we are doomed if by chance gets on our machines

Do you have a source for this :) ?

I've never encountered a malware that 'destroys' registry files of Norton.

As been said above, malware can certainly disable Antivirus-applications.

Just because you are an expert and never encountered it doesn't mean it is not possible, we both know that millions of malware are being created as we speak, not even Malwarebytes can fully keep up with them,

I don't have a source, because the I found the page on accident, and I never thought to save it, sorry about that :)

Please note - No experts have yet commented on this thread - There has only been a few members asking if you did have a source -

The comment by Firefox is the correct one to take any notice of -

Thank You - :)

sorry I assumed he was an expert, and i have already seen what firefox said, but I am on about Norton being destroyed just merely disabled

Hi, thank you, I do work in the security industry, but I'm not an expert on this forum.

Besides, I was just stating that I personally did not encounter this with Norton files being destroyed :) .

Malwares don't need to destroy protection software, disabling them is enough, and can be less visible than destroying files. I didn't find specific references to Norton files being destroyed, except when exposing a system to some file infectors, but they destroy almost everything.

This might be only a question of terminology clarification, like the "Norton registry files" from first post, which are probably registry keys, some of those can be deleted (or most likely altered) by malwares.
