Thanks for the response. I am not sure what you mean about remote computer. This installation is on a Dell laptop with windows XP and using Avast free anti virus which I tried to shut down and still get the error. The program will run but manualy only it will not run in the backround which is why I purchased the program. That is when I get the error message.

Is there any way to repair this?

Please try this on the computer that is having an issue.

1. Uninstall Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware using Add/Remove programs in the control panel.

2. Restart your computer (very important).

3. Download and run this utility. mbam-clean.exe

4. It will ask to restart your computer (please allow it to).

5. After the computer restarts, install the latest version from here. mbam-setup.exe

Note: You will need to reactivate the program using the license you were sent

Launch the program and set the Protection and Registration. Then go to the UPDATE tab if not done during installation and check for updates.

Restart the computer again and verify that MBAM is in the task tray and that you can run a quick scan and all is working as expected.

If you're still having an issue then please post back the data from this registry key.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\Setup

SystemPartition

Thank you.

OK-I deleted Malwarebytes, restarted pc and ran cleaner, restarted pc and reinstalled Malwarebytes. Still get the error: (open event) Failed to perform desired action. Error Code:2 Even at computer start up. I can run the program manualy but once I click start protection I get the error. If I move the mouse over the icon in the tray it goes away. It just doesn't want to run in the background. Which is why I purchased the product. Anyway here is the info from regedit.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\Setup

SystemPartition

REG_SZ \Device\HarddiskVolume2

Again Thanks for all the help,

jalex

You may need to setup file exclusions for the Anti-Virus. Please review the FAQ where we show how to do this for other Anti-Virus programs. We don't have a specific one for Avast, but it should be similar. I know that Avast was having issues before so make sure you have the latest updates from them as well.

FAQ: http://forums.malwarebytes.org/index.php?showtopic=10138

Try setting file exclusions and see if that corrects it or not.

Also try just installing it and updating MBAM and doing a Quick Scan and see if it finds anything and let me know.

This is getting a little bit above my ability. I have un installed Avast fee anti virus, unistalled Malwarebytes, rebooted, ran the cleaner, rebooted and reinstalled Malwarebytes and I still get the error. It just will not run in the background. Once I click start protection I get the error. Of course thats after I register my id info... So it's not the anti virus.
