Microsoft Security Essentials and MBAM Compatibility Issue?

Recommended Posts

OK, I can understand not being comfortable. I'll give you a reg file to automate it for you (I already tested it on my own system to make sure it works properly). Just open notepad and copy the following text into it and save it as Type "All Files" and save the file as fix.reg :
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer]
"NoActiveDesktopChanges"=dword:00000001

Once it's saved to your desktop, just double click it and click Continue at the UAC prompt and click Yes when it asks if you want it added to the registry.

Hey everyone, I tried researching a fix for this problem on the forums here and elsewhere but have had no luck. I am wondering if you can help.

The problems:

You Tube: Displays very basic images in place of the usual images I have always seen. A screenshot is attached.

I have also had a problem editing a page in a wiki I contribute to. There are unfamiliar images (thumbnails of places in the wiki to navigate to) on that page and I am unable to type where I have always been able to type in the past.

Some background of what I have installed and uninstalled on my computer over the past two days:

I installed the pro version of MBAM and Microsoft Security Essentials yesterday (multiple users on other forums mentioned it was a solid, inexpensive combination of protection). In order to avoid overlap, I uninstalled the programs that were protecting my computer beforehand (Comodo and Avast).

I have ran full scans using both MBAM and MSE and my computer is clean. The only item MBAM found was the "Hijack.DisplayProperties" false positive. I followed the instructions found in post #29 on this page

Any help in solving these issues would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance!

I messed up on that quote location. The quote at the top of my original post refers to the bold url below (also from my orig post).

Again, thanks for your help!

Greetings and welcome to Malwarebytes :)

I'm not sure why you're having issues with YouTube and Wiki, however, there are known issues with MBAM and MSE that can easily be resolved. Hopefully this will correct the other issues you're having as well. Please follow the instructions in this guide to exclude MBAM's files from MSE.

Please let me know how it works out.

Thanks :)

Samuel,

Thank you for the help. Sorry for the lag time in response. I followed that guide. The Wiki problem has been resolved. YouTube, however, still appears differently from what I am used to. It is fully functional, though, so I should be good from here. Thanks, again.

Aaron

Hi Aaron -

My only ideas can relate to Opera Browser - Have you attempted to use any other Browser (Firefox or Internet Explorer) with the same combination ??

I have no problems with MSE, note my signature (actually it is better than some) and I have been using it for months with I.E. and Orca Browsers -

i absolutely love opera for speed.......unfortunately i have some trouble playing videos on it from certain hosts...but still definetly my fave browser

This is in Software News & Updates area with details of the new Opera updates -

Thank You - :P
