MBAM and ZoneAlarm?

Recommended Posts

Greetings :)

I haven't heard of any but just to be safe you should probably exclude the following files as Trusted in ZoneAlarm's interface:

For Windows XP:

  • C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbam.exe
  • C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbamgui.exe
  • C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbamservice.exe
  • C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\zlib.dll
  • C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbam.dll
  • C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbamext.dll
  • C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\rules.ref
  • C:\Windows\System32\drivers\mbam.sys
  • C:\Windows\System32\drivers\mbamswissarmy.sys

You should also do the same for Microsoft Security Essentials otherwise you might have freeze issues. To do so you can simply follow this guide.

Thank you. So far I have not had any "FREEZE" issues. Also, I have MBAM on DELAYED START by using WinPatrol. Should I let "well-enough" alone? :)

You can, but I'd still exclude them from MSE just to be safe as it can't do any harm :).

Thanks again. I have removed ZA and will use Windows Firewall. I have also removed MBAM from running at startup and will use it as a back-up malware scanner. I am not "good enough" to set up exclusions and feel comfortable about it.

I'm gettin' too old for this stuff! :)

No need to go that far. You can leave the programs you have running, the tutorial I linked to explains very plainly how to set the exclusions in MSE, it is a full guide that includes pictures and extensive instructions from a member of our own support staff. As for ZoneAlarm, as long as Malwarebytes' is able to scan and update properly then you shouldn't have any issues.
