Hi, first thanks for the help.

I started off with the anti virus virus and some internet window pop-ups. And I would get a message that (fill in the blank).exe was infected anytime I tried to open just about anything.

I finally got Spybot- Search and Destroy to run in Safe mode. That caught a few things and stopped the window pop-ups. But the anti virus virus even popped up in safe mode and I still couldnt get malware to load. It was giving an error message that mbam.exe was missing.

Next I logged onto the guest account by accident on the computer and when I did all the warnings and offers to upgrade that come with that virus disappeared. They were replaced by 2 little windows that kept popping up to warn about something that was missing like run.dll or something like that. So i logged back to the admin. account.

Then I got to your site and I followed directions and downloaded the renamed version. Then I ran malwarebytes and it caught the 2 warnings and a bunch of other things.

I cannot update b/c of the 732 (2,0) warning. But I wasnt sure if I was supposed to follow the instructions from the other posts b/c it says IE and not the others. and I am using firefox. so i need a little clarification on that.

and I wasnt sure if it was safe to use the computer. is the virus and stuff really gone? it really seemed to disappear by itself. so hopefully someone has some answers.

Welcome lost456 -

First you must ensure that the infection has not altered your internet settings - Please do these steps in Internet Explorer (even if F/fox is your main browser) - - The 732 error is usually due to your Internet Explorer being altered by an infection - Try these steps first please -

Verify Your Internet Connection Settings:

  • Open Internet Explorer
    • Note: It MUST be Internet Explorer, not Firefox, Opera, Chrome or any other internet browser

[*]Click on Tools at the top and select Internet Options

    • Note: If you do not see Tools, press the Alt key on your keyboard and it will show up

    [*]Click on the Connections tab

[*]Click on the LAN settings button

[*]Under Automatic configuration make sure that the box next to Automatically detect settings is checked, if it is not, then click the box next to it to check it

[*]Under Proxy server make sure that the box next to Use a proxy server for your LAN (These settings will not apply to dial-up or VPN connections). is not checked and if it is, click the box next to it to uncheck it

[*]Click on the OK button to close the Local Area Network (LAN) Settings window

[*]Click on the OK button to close the Internet Options window

[*]Try updating Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware again to see if it now works correctly

-THIS will show you the last steps -

Thank You - :)

EDIT - If you still have problems post back and I will post the Complete version of the fixes -

Also this http://forums.malwarebytes.org/index.php?showforum=39 area of our forum can give you self help advice if you know the infections name -

ok, so the most I have done on this computer since I have supposedly cleaned up the problem is look at the news on google and yahoo. Just today the windows were loading slowly and pop-ups started again. And I tried to play spider solitaire that comes with the computer but that locked up and I had to exit.

so I ran the un-updated m-bytes and it caught like 8 problems.

So I downloaded erunt and made the backup. Then I followed the instructions on what to type in run and that worked so now I am updated. I am running a quick update now and it is showing no infections.

Do I run a full scan? Is there another program i should run as well? thanks

Hi Again lost -

If you have not been able to update yet then you have not repaired your problem - If you can update, then after your next update (usually 2-3 times a day) run a Full Scan just in case there is a deep infection - If this will not remove your problem I will leave further directions -

Please print out, read and follow the directions here, skipping any steps you are unable to complete. Then post a NEW topic here.

One of the expert helpers there will give you one-on-one assistance when one becomes available.

After posting your new post make sure under options that you select Track this topic and choose one of the Email options so that you're alerted when someone has replied to your post.

Hi

Your computer is often automatically restarted after an infection is removed - Or you will be asked to restart once you remove an infection -

The items you removed were 'Fake Rogue' infections that are designed to cause harm to your computer and to slow your system -

First try the Full Scan (it will take between 1 and 2 hours) the time depends on if the infections still remain and the size of information in your system - If it is still running after 3 hours then read my edited post above - Follow as many directions as you can and submit these to the forum section that is highlighted - It will take the volunteer experts about 5 days to get to your problem as they are very busy at this time due to the amount of infections like yours -

Thank You - :)

Well Done -

Run another scan after you update (the update will give an error message if there is still a problem) - If you are finding this many infections I would keep checking for problems for the next day or so - You do not need to be actually "running" Internet Explorer but it just needs to be activated on your computer - In my post #2 click on THIS above the smiley face and make sure I.E. is activated - You can use any browser you want to but I.E must exist on your system for Malwarebytes updates (as well as for M/soft security updates) -

Thank You - :)
