New threat?

First time post . . .

I have a computer infected with Antivirus 2010 and perhaps something else that I cannot seem to get rid of.

The computer was running AVast antivirus but not Malware bytes (although it will be when I get done).

I have attempted to install MBytes but to no avail . . . no matter what I do, after it installs the infection

deletes the .exe program for MBytes. I've tried renaming it and that doesn't help. I've tried installing it

in safe mode, and that doesn't help.

I found a program called rkill.com from bleepingcomputer.com's website which claims to kill any AV2010

programs that are running so I can install MBytes, and when I run rkill, it writes a file in notepad to the

screen and saves it in the C:\> drive, but all icons then disappear from the computer and there is nothing

I can do but turn the machine off. (Same exact thing happens in safe mode).

I'm unsure how to proceed to figure out what is going on and eliminate this headache.

Is this a known piece of malware that causes this and can someone point me to a 'cure'?

I suggest you get the Avira rescue CD here:

You need to burn it onto a CD and boot from it.

I suggest you download and burn the ISO image from another, clean, computer.
