I was infected this morning with the AntiVirus Live bug, and have attempted to follow common removal protocols posted around the web. However, when attempting to update MBAM, I get error 732 (1209,0) or (12029,0) each time. I also have found that I'm unable to use any program that calls for direct access to the internet (Yahoo Messenger, NAV updater, etc.) I expect this is because parts of the "bug" are still resident, but running MBAM without update shows a clean scan...

I want to be able to rid myself of this pest once and for all, and to be able to use my programs and update my antivirus software once and for all.

What am I missing?

Oh...btw, I am running WinXP and Firefox browser

Thanks...

Hello Hollydoc,

Please see Procedures to help resolve issues preventing MBAM from running

and

I'm infected - What do I do now?

Make sure you have written down the accurate "title" displayed by that rogue that you have.

I.e. recheck name "AntiVirus Live" is what you see

There are two many recent malwares that use "Antivirus" in the name; also "Live".

Did you run your antvirus for a full system scan? what did it find?

To get rid of the nagging rogue window, press and hold ALT key on keyboard and press F4 function key.

Repeat as needed. This will close the window that is in the foreground.

It will not get rid of the rogue program itself and all it's components that likely are now inside & on your system.

OK...none of the "MBAM not running" fixes seem to apply here. The other solution link calls for downloading MBAM (no need...I already have it) and updating it (as I said before...won't allow me to)

Also couldn't scan or update my Norton 360 for much the same reasons.

And, Yes...it was AntiVirus Live. I've seen it enough times to be sure I'm correct about that.

Try this:

  • Open Internet Explorer
    • Note: It MUST be Internet Explorer, not Firefox, Opera, Chrome or any other internet browser

[*]Click on Tools at the top and select Internet Options

    • Note: If you do not see Tools, press the Alt key on your keyboard and it will show up

    [*]Click on the Connections tab

[*]Click on the LAN settings button

[*]Under Automatic configuration make sure that the box next to Automatically detect settings is checked, if it is not, then click the box next to it to check it

[*]Under Proxy server make sure that the box next to Use a proxy server for your LAN (These settings will not apply to dial-up or VPN connections). is not checked and if it is, click the box next to it to uncheck it

[*]Click on the OK button to close the Local Area Network (LAN) Settings window

[*]Click on the OK button to close the Internet Options window

[*]Try updating Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware again to see if it now works correctly

When you get time I would appreciate knowing what security applications you were using, and especially if you were running MBAM real time. I have just started running it real time due to a friend's infection.

Thanks,

Jerry

I am running Norton 360, and was running MBAM, but not in real-time. Dunno how that booger sneaked thru, but it did.

Thanks. I have posted elsewhere that a friend running Norton got infected with antivir rogue. It would not let him download anything. I took a CD with MBAM on it, and we installed it and ran a scan. MBAM detected and removed it with one Quick Scan.

Norton is one of the best, and I decided to run MBAM in real time as a result.

Regards,

Jerry
