Unable to install Malwarebytes

Recommended Posts

I was running Avast 4.8 and a trojan got by H8RST

It disable Avast and Malwarebytes.

Finally got rid of the trojan and installed Avast 5

But I have been unable to install Malwarebytes at all

It gives me a 0 code after installation.

What do I need to do to install it?

Welcome RoseG -

Please follow these steps first as the infection can upset your Internet Connection - First disable (not delete) your Avast -

Verify Your Internet Connection Settings:

  • Open Internet Explorer
    • Note: It MUST be Internet Explorer, not Firefox, Opera, Chrome or any other internet browser

[*]Click on Tools at the top and select Internet Options

    • Note: If you do not see Tools, press the Alt key on your keyboard and it will show up

    [*]Click on the Connections tab

[*]Click on the LAN settings button

[*]Under Automatic configuration make sure that the box next to Automatically detect settings is checked, if it is not, then click the box next to it to check it

[*]Under Proxy server make sure that the box next to Use a proxy server for your LAN (These settings will not apply to dial-up or VPN connections). is not checked and if it is, click the box next to it to uncheck it

[*]Click on the OK button to close the Local Area Network (LAN) Settings window

[*]Click on the OK button to close the Internet Options window

[*]Try updating Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware again to see if it now works correctly

This link shows how to do these steps -

Thank You -

Hello RoseG, and welcome to Malwarebytes.org

It is possible that you may still be infected, causing that error. Notice the error states that it can not find the file mbam.exe. Some malware will delete this file as soon as you install malwarebytes. Two things to try.

First Try this:

Please try this on the computer that is having an issue.

1. Uninstall Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware using Add/Remove programs in the control panel.

2. Restart your computer (very important).

3. Download and run this utility. mbam-clean.exe

4. It will ask to restart your computer (please allow it to).

5. After the computer restarts, install the latest version from here. mbam-setup.exe

Note: You will need to reactivate the program using the license you were sent

Launch the program and set the Protection and Registration. Then go to the UPDATE tab if not done during installation and check for updates.

Restart the computer again and verify that MBAM is in the task tray and that you can run a quick scan and all is working as expected.

If the first one did not solve your issue you will have to follow these instructions:

We don't work on Malware removal in the general forums.

Please print out, read and follow the directions here, skipping any steps you are unable to complete. Then post a NEW topic here.

One of the expert helpers there will give you one-on-one assistance when one becomes available.

After posting your new post make sure under options that you select Track this topic and choose one of the Email options so that you're alerted when someone has replied to your post.
