Malwarebytes freezes after 20 seconds

I installed the program, and the scanning freezes after 20 seconds. Did everything that was asked of me to do on one of the other forum pages. Was running AVG Free, and Microsoft Essentials. Uninstalled AVG Free, and used the AVG Removal Tool also. I added exclusions to the settings page on MSE, and MWB still freezes at around 12-20 seconds, and I hit ctrl/alt/del, and it tells me the program is "Not Responding". There has to be a simpler answer to this, than to go through all this downloading of exe programs that I see people going through on this section of the forum. I need some help.
