Can Not Find MBAM.exe

Ham

Recommended Posts

Hello I was searching forum for my problem. My comp downloaded a virus, I know because the Adobe Acrobat popped up. Opened up to scan with Malwarebytes, and received the "Can not find mbam.exe" So I searched the forums and found this thread

http://www.malwarebytes.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=29028

I tried using the remedy, and when I open up renamed explorer.exe to work around it, I receive this error

703 (0, 453)

Was wondering if anyone could provide some help. Thanks

Hi,

This looks like you didn't put the renamed file in the C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes anti-malware folder.

Anyway, Please try this version of malwarebytes: Click the link here

Save it on your desktop. You'll see it will have a random name, and will look similar like this: mbamrandom.jpg

Doubleclick on it, so it will extract the files and will start Malwarebytes automatically.

In case the installer (random named file) won't run either, rename it to EXPLORER.EXE and try again.

When Malwarebytes opens, click the "Update" tab FIRST and select to check for updates in order to get the latest updates.

In case Malwarebytes doesn't open, search for the folder mbam-installer on your desktop, open it and doubleclick the file winlogon.exe which will be present in there. This should launch Malwarebytes.

Then perform a scan and let it remove what it found. Reboot afterwards (important).

After reboot, post the malwarebytes log together with a new HijackThislog.

In case you're having problems with above instructions, let me know.

You probably hear it a lot, but thank you very much for your help. I see that black dog avatar all over the forums saving computers. That file you gave me worked, and I did a scan. Below is the log from the scan. I don't have HijackThis but if you think its still necessary I can download it. Thanks again.

Hi,

Yes, please download and install HijackThis so I can have a look for registry leftovers, so we can easily delete it with HijackThis as well.

* Download HijackThis from here:

http://free.antivirus.com/hijackthis/

HijackThis will open after install. Press the Scan button below.

This will start the scan and open a log.

Copy and paste the contents of the log in your next reply.

Ok here is the HiJackThis results... (my computer has the ms_dos window occasionaly pop up with a problem that I have to hit close for. I think that has to do with help.exe. Not sure if that shows in this at all) Thanks again

Hi,

This looks OK again.

One small note though... Update your Sun Java, because previous versions are vulnerable:

Updating Java:

  • Go to Start > Control Panel double-click on the Software icon > add/remove programs.
  • Search in the list for all previous installed versions of Java. (J2SE Runtime Environment.... )
It should have next icon next to it: javaicon.gif
    Select it and click Remove.
  • Then Download and install the newest version from here:

Let me know in your next reply how things are now.

Took off my old Javas and installed that new on. Not sure if you want to see it but here is the logfile. One last question, whenever I shut down or restart my computer, I get the message that a program NetBroadcast, is currently in use, do I want to End Now. Does this program sound familiar? Should I just remove it? Thanks again

Hi,

whenever I shut down or restart my computer, I get the message that a program NetBroadcast, is currently in use, do I want to End Now. Does this program sound familiar? Should I just remove it?

This is related with the following legitimate startup entry:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ATICCC] "C:\Program Files\ATI Technologies\ATI.ACE\cli.exe" runtime -Delay

This startup is not required anyway; so you can disable it via msconfig.

To do this, go to start > run and type: msconfig

a new window will open. select the startup tab there.

In there uncheck the reference ATICCC

Click apply and ok and then reboot.

After reboot, you'll get a message that something was changed in your system configuration, just check the checkbox there to not show this message again.

Let me know how things are now.

Glad I could help. :D

Please read my Prevention page with lots of info and tips how to prevent this in the future.

And if you want to improve speed/system performance after malware removal, take a look here.

Extra note: Make sure your programs are up to date - because older versions may contain Security Leaks. To find out what programs need to be updated, please run the Secunia Software Inspector Scan.

Happy Surfing again!

I just went to use Malwarebytes, and it could not find the .exe again. I have only gone to mainstream websites so not sure if one of them were hit with the virus or what happened. Either way, I did all the steps again using that zipped file to run malwarebytes. After a clean and reboot below is my Hijack This log. I tried comparing it to my log from before to see if there was any similarities. Here is the Hijack This log. Is the line 020 similar to the problem it was before? Thanks again.

Hi,

Check and fix this leftover again in HijackThis:

O20 - AppInit_DLLs: tonokule.dll c:\windows\system32\masekaba.dll

I have only gone to mainstream websites so not sure if one of them were hit with the virus or what happened
Yes, I guess one of those sites is infected. So I suggest you stay away from these sites.
