I just installed the paid version of Malwarebytes on my home network and seem to have lost the ability to open shared folders on my network. I am using ESET NOD32 Smart Security but have the firewall disabled at this point. I have all computers on a wired 100/1000 network and all systems have internet connectivity and I can see all the computers. I just can't access any of the shared folders any longer. Is this by chnace or is there something in Malwarebytes that can cause this. I'll be honest, I have used the free version in the past but only updating and scanning from time to time. Works so well when needed, I felt I needed to support the product by buying it.

Thanks,

Steve

I have not seen this happen in a networked environment. I am not using ESET NOD32 Smart Security.

Here is some things to check.... to add to what AdvancedSetup said:

1. Did the network admins add any new policies?

2. Have you received any new updates to your antivirus that may have added some features that are preventing the access?

3. Check the shares and make sure you still have permissions.

4. I have seen where a server lost its permissions even though they were setup correctly. Restarting the server solved it.

I basically ran msconfig on all 4 systems and blocked the automatic startup of Malwarebytes to prevent any sort of possible network intrussion. Turned off all firewalls and when that didn't resolve anything, temporarly stopped NOD32 on all systems while testing. The only updates that happen automatically are the signature files for NOD32 Smart Security, the program files are manually updated on occassion. So no new program updates. Shares are intact. The systems are all desktops systems setup to share files and printers. The wierd thing is I can still use Remote Desktop on all systems connecting to each other at will. Two are in the observatory and on a hub out there connecting to a hub in the house connecting the rest of the computers. The modem is a self hosting satellite Hughes HNS7000 modem. None are setup as a server. I've been thinking of centralizing data files using a NAS but haven't found one that fits the budget and gets really good reviews. This is, afterall, a hobby gone wild for me.

All worked as expected till yesterday. Really wierd.

Had some additional time to investigate and weird timing but evidently there was some after effect left over from a previous version of Norton IS 2009. After looking at the error message a bit closer and seeing that it referred to not having enough resources to execute the command, I found that the registry needed to be manually edited and I needed to download and run the Norton Removal Tool. After adding the registry edit and using the tool, rebooting the systems now allows shared access as before. What's totally weird about the whole thing is that Norton hasn't been on these machines since September 2009.

Thanks for the suggestions. Hopefully I can contribute in some way.
