Hi.

Where to start?

I've cleaned machines before using the guides at majorgeeks, but this one is stretching the limits of my ability, so I need some assistance, please.

I have my son's notebook, a Dell Inspiron, 32 bit, Vista Home. For a while now it's been behaving oddly: slow, desktop disappearing, difficulty booting, permission denied on files and applications. I figured a virus scan is in order, but most of my attempts have been blocked.

Specifically, Malwarebytes and Hijackthis are terminated several seconds after they are started. So getting information from the machine has been difficult. Using rkill, then a combofix scan, I was able to get Hijackthis to produce a log. Attached are both logs (curiously, I had to rename hijackthis.log to hijackthis.txt because the forum block the .log type of file)

Is this a starting point from which I, with your assistance, can clean this machine.

I appreciate the fabulous work that you folks do. You are the altruistic doctors of the computer world. I'm hoping that you can help me. Where do I go from here?

Thanks.

Paul.
