Hi Jean

Me again, just had the addssite popup just now, i ma on interent using firefox and it came up. hope I am following your instructions right. Do you think what you say is clearing it but I am getting reinfected every time i open firefox. It is a nuisance, sorry for taking up you time

Hi Jean

Just after sent last mail have had navipromo come up for "healing" in AVG - it happened at same time as opend firfox to go to internet. Firefox is noticably slow in starting up, will this be connected?

Don your problem is this below in bold. Your scanning and not removing.

When a bad file is found you need to remove it. There is no point in scanning for the sake of scanning. So update MBAM and do a full scan again.... go into the settings tab and put a check in every box. Take action when the bad files are found and post the log and a new HJT log please.

Have repeated mbam and fixed the two files it found, log below, also hijack log below. Had the addssite popup window again twice in last day but both times it was not able to olog onto any sites. PC OK littel bit slow only.

Hi Don, I'm a little confused. You are still getting popups, but not redirects to the site? MBAM is on database 483 now. I can't stress enough update before every scan. The guys writing the defs for this program are on the ball and it updates daily if not more and usually it is twice a day.

Run HJT in scan only mode and put a check next to the following items then click fix.

I would like to see the log from a Panda scan Don. Please use the link at the top of this forum and also see the tutorial for how to run a scan. Run that scan and post the log please. Also run another scan with MBAM after update. Post that log and a new HJT.

Hi Jean

Been a while sicne got round to trying to sort out the addssite is popups, still getting them every so often my PC is OK though, doesn't seem to afect it much. Not able to get any info from addsite popup window itslef as to where it is coming from, the popup window is a firefox window but no menu title etc, even rigth click does not give any info about it. The popusps are from diff places, get poker sites. Did the MBAM scan again, but good news MBAM was clear. See log below plus new hijack log.

Don you must update MBAM before every scan. Current version is 540. Please scan again and post the log.

updated mbam and ran scan, no files were found, whcih is great. Hijack log below as well, the two files I tick and fix keep coming back right away. Just about to uninstall the java runtime. PC going Ok.

You are running an outdated and unsafe version of Java. You need to uninstall it via Add/Remove programs and delete the program file also. Then go here http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/index.jsp and install the correct version for your system. Choose the offline installation.

Please post the new MBAM and HJT logs. If your still getting popups there is still something there. I will get back to this later today. No time right now.

You asked what address the popups for addsite are looking for, most of time can't get to find out thsi from popup, but a few time the popup can't find the server - i have noted whcih server it can't find - the message is:

I am still getting popups, it is only some of them that can't load the page and give the error message i sent in the last post. The popups from addsite that "work" i get the page are lotteries/poker games type of site, sorry never took note of them, next time will do apritn screen and sent it to you.

Have posted the Kservcie file to both places, i looked up this file on the web and it is used by the BBC i web site. Our UK broadcasting compnay BBC now offer a download of recent programs to the PC, a kind of file sharing scheme , but the downlaoded program can only be watched for a week then it is deleted from the PC.

I found that the file was associated as you say with the ISP. It does seem to be a security risk in that it is P2P. I think we may have cleaned the machine and what your getting now are the popups that anyone will get if they aren't using something to stop them. The ones that won't load are most likely blocked by a host file or SpyBot Search & Destroy. As a Firefox user you can get Adblock extensions and they work very well. I also have the Google toolbar which blocks popups, I find it a most valuable tool.

Update Spybot Search & Destroy and run a scan remove all it finds. Do the same with MBAM and let get another Panda scan. Please post the Panda log and the MBAM log. Also a new HJT.
