Malwar Defense, No Tutorials Helping

I have looked at some tutorials and nothing is helping. My toshiba netbook has malware defense, but I haven't installed the fake program yet. I just exit out of the pop ups

I had malwarebytes anti-virus on my computer before the infection, and after I did a scan and deleted some files this malware defense showed up after a restart. I have started my computer up normally and also in safe mode and malewarebytes will not even open. In normal mode the computer freezes after a short time also. Any suggestions?

See if you can do these in Normal Mode if you cannot try SafeMode.

• Download OTL to your desktop.
  
• Double click on the icon to run it. Make sure all other windows are closed and to let it run uninterrupted.

• Check the boxes beside LOP Check and Purity Check.
  
• Click the Run Scan button. Do not change any settings unless otherwise told to do so. The scan wont take long.
  
  • When the scan completes, it will open two notepad windows. OTL.Txt and Extras.Txt. These are saved in the same location as OTL.
    
  • Please copy (Edit->Select All, Edit->Copy) the contents of these files, one at a time, and post it with your next reply.

Download the following GMER Rootkit Scanner from Here

• Download the randomly named EXE file to your Desktop. Remember what its name is since it is randomly named.
  
• Double click on the new random named exe file you downloaded and run it. If prompted about the Security Warning and Unknown Publisher go ahead and click on Run
  
• It may take a minute to load and become available.
  
• If it gives you a warning about rootkit activity and asks if you want to run a full scan...click on NO, then use the following settings for a more complete scan..
  
• In the right panel, you will see several boxes that have been checked. Ensure the following are UNCHECKED
  

  
  

• Sections
  
  
• IAT/EAT
  
  
• Drives/Partition other than Systemdrive (typically only C:\ should be checked)
  
  
• Show All (don't miss this one)

  
  

• Then click the Scan button & wait for it to finish.
  
• Once done click on the [save..] button, and in the File name area, type in "ark.txt" or it will save as a .log file which cannot be uploaded to your post.
  
• Save it where you can easily find it, such as your desktop
  
• **Caution** Rootkit scans often produce false positives. Do NOT take any action on any "<--- ROOKIT" entries
  
• Click OK and quit the GMER program.
  
• Note: On Firefox you need to go to Tools/Options/Main then under the Downloads section, click on Always ask me where to save files so that you can choose the name and where to save to, in this case your Desktop.
  
• Post that log in your next reply.

Now my computer won't even start up. It just restarts at the start screen when I try normal mode or safe mode. The screen flashes blue and then restarts at the toshiba screen. BLUE SCREEN OF DEATH

Please try this restart the computer and continually press the f8 key until you see a set of boot options.

They will look like this:

SafeMode

SafeMode with Networking etc..

Choose Last known good configuration and hit enter let's see if that get's you up and running.

I tried every safe mode and last known good and start windows normally. Same result for all of them. It gets to the windows loading page, goes black, flashes blue, and then restarts at the toshiba boot screen

Since this is a netbook I assume there is no cd drive?

Do you have access to a usb cd or dvd drive that you can use to recover your system with?

Yes I have a portable cd drive

Download RC.ISO and burn it to a cd as an ISO image. You may need a burning toy like ISO Recorder to do this...be sure to get the version for your operating system.

Once you have burned this as an ISO image, insert the CD into the drive, and then restart the computer. Watch for the prompt to "Press any key to boot from cd" and press the spacebar when you see it. You may have to change the boot priority in BIOS Setup to accomplish this...we'll cross that bridge if we get to it.

When the "Welcome to Setup" screen appears, press R to start the Recovery Console.

If you have a dual-boot or multiple-boot computer, select the installation that you want to access from the Recovery Console...by number (usually 1)

When you are prompted to do so, type the Administrator password. If you have not set an administrator password, leave it blank and just press "Enter".

When you get to the Recovery Console prompt, type cd \ and press "Enter".

Type cd system~1\_resto~1 and press "Enter".

Type dir and press "Enter".

After you press enter you will see a list of folders (like rp1, rp2) If the list of restore points has more than one page then press the "Enter" key until you reach the end of the list

Type cd rp {number of the second to last folder in the list} and press "Enter".

Note: Example: cd rp9 if the last restore point is rp10

Type cd snapshot and press "Enter".

Type copy _registry_machine_system c:\windows\system32\config\system and press "Enter".

Type copy _registry_machine_software c:\windows\system32\config\software and press "Enter".

Type exit and press "Enter".

Your PC will reboot.

If you get an access denied error when doing the above, then do the following at the recovery console:

Type cd \ and press "Enter".

Type cd windows\system32\config and press "Enter".

Type ren system system.bak and press "Enter".

Type exit and press "Enter".

Your PC will reboot, go back into the Recovery Console and start from the beginning.
