internet accelerators

I use XPsp3 and Firefox with dialup internet.

I am wondering if any of the internet accelerators would improve the speed in opening webpages or downloads. Has anyone had positive experiences with these?

Some say it is no good but this caller (on dialup) found it was all that would fix their Malwarebytes updating problem

As an extra - This person (linked) lived in a very remote area with no chance of B/band for about a year -

When I checked his area it still existed on lines that were many years old but they were to be upgraded shortly -

I don't know, I used to be on dialup myself for years (Earthlink) and I used a web accelerator and all it was ever able to do was speed up the loading of web pages by reducing the quality of images on the pages. While that will certainly make websites display more quickly, it will do nothing for actual throughput of the connection with regards to speed and won't affect file downloads either.

The thread I linked showed how far behind he was in updating (main problem) but with the accelerator he got updated for the first time in a long time -

It works for some ?? But many get nothing from it -

They were in back blocks of Tennessee and away from everything else - Not a cure-all but a help for some -

I suspect, based on how internet accelerators work, that all it actually did was change one of the user's setting back to defaults, thus allowing MBAM to update as I've never seen any other case where an internet accelerator corrected a problem with MBAM updating.

Thank you for the suggestions and perspective on this issue.

Yesterday, I tried SpeedGuide TCP Optimizer and it actually slowed my ping, and download and upload speeds according to two test sites: speakeasy.net/speedtest and www.speedtest.net.

I my try Auslogics.
