Black Screen of Death

Recommended Posts

Win 7 with all updates.

To generate a Black SOD, all I have to do is run a MBAM (quick or full). Then the next time I wake the computer from sleep and after entering the password, I get the BlackSOD. The MBAM scans actually find 0 problems. I am using MSSE as my AV. I have not received any black screens unless I run MBAM. I have not used the prevx 'fix'.

For now, I do not run my weekly MBAM scan to avoid the Black SOD.

When I did get the Black SOD, I just reset and rebooted with no problem.

Yes, it could have been caused by what has become known in the Windows world as "DLL Hell", basically Windows keeps old versions of DLL's along with new ones and sometimes the registration of said DLL's can get corrupted, causing issues with the programs that use them (such as the DLL's used by MBAM), the upgrade install of 7 over Vista may have corrupted the registration of said DLL's and removing and reinstalling likely corrected it :D .
