Supernovasky Posted January 2, 2010 ID:178775 Share Posted January 2, 2010 I currently have a Sony Vaio RC110g (Windows XP Media Center Edition SP3) that has an ATI Radeon x300 128 ddr sdram video card in it. It is PCI Express x16 and the computer has a 400W output max power supply with extra power cables coming from it for other harddrives or whatever may be added.. I am looking to upgrade the video card and will probably spend up to $150 (most video cards seem to be around $100 on average). I need some assistance though in making sure I get one that is compatible. I don't care the brand as long as its ATI or Nvidia and I'm actually leaning towards trying out an Nvidia. Any suggestions on any cards that will work would be greatly appreciated! Thanks, TrevorOh and if there really aren't that many better options out there then please say so, because I plan on getting a laptop in about 5 months before I go off to college so its not crucial or anything that I upgrade it. exile360 Posted January 3, 2010 ID:178973 Share Posted January 3, 2010 Here's a good one , but note that it requires at least 400 watts so you'd be pushing it. If you want something with lower requirements you can go with this one, it only requires 300 watts so you'd have some head room.
Supernovasky Posted January 3, 2010 Author ID:179030 Share Posted January 3, 2010 Thank you Exile, the little cheaper one seems like a very nice one for what I'm looking for. It is pretty cheap and the specs (length and width) from Nvidia's website show that it will fit when I measured the room I have. I think I'll go with it. Thanks again! exile360 Posted January 3, 2010 ID:179031 Share Posted January 3, 2010 You're very welcome Just be sure to uninstall all the Catalyst drivers from the x300 before installing the new card as ATI and NVIDIA tend to have issues when installed on the same system.
