Persistent blocking of IP: 68.178.232.99

Recommended Posts

I'm pretty green at this stuff, so bear with me. I just installed Windows 7 Home Premium on a fresh drive after my Vista Ultimate (!!) drive crashed. I installed Malwarebytes and started noticing the occasional pop-up telling me this IP or another had been "successfully blocked." Now I'm noticing that every single time I open a new tab in IE 8, after about 15 seconds or so, I get the same popup warning saying the same IP: 68.178.232.99 has been successfully blocked. It's kind of a minor annoyance, but now I'm wondering is there some piece of malware on my machine that keeps trying to let this IP "in"? I don't have a clue.

I can't say for sure, but this MAY have started when I thought this warning was being generated when I tried to access a website I was SURE was OK, so I put it in IGNORE list. When I saw the website, it didn't look particularly malicioius, but it WAS NOT what I thought it would be, so I removed it from the ignore list and now I get these constant messages.

Here is a snippet of a log file:

21:14:34 STP IP-BLOCK 68.178.232.99

21:14:54 STP IP-BLOCK 68.178.232.99

21:14:54 STP IP-BLOCK 68.178.232.99

21:15:04 STP IP-BLOCK 68.178.232.99

21:15:25 STP IP-BLOCK 68.178.232.99

21:15:25 STP IP-BLOCK 68.178.232.99

21:15:35 STP IP-BLOCK 68.178.232.99

21:15:55 STP IP-BLOCK 68.178.232.99

21:15:55 STP IP-BLOCK 68.178.232.99

21:16:05 STP IP-BLOCK 68.178.232.99

As you can see this goes on ad infinitum, and seems to be triggered whenever I open a NEW TAB in IE, as mentioned.

Any help or pointers much appreciated.

Best regards,

Stephen Porter

GoDaddy is one of the many sites listed at this IP - It is not regarded as secure, at all, at this time - If you have visited this site or used this site I would make sure you delete it and run a full Manual Malwarebytes scan - We always review sites and blocked IPs on a regular basis -

Thank you for asking -

Thanks for the info. I must have visited this site when I added it to the IGNORE list. I removed it from this list, but it was still coming up (the IP address) when I opened a new tab. I think I've figured out what was happening. I had the default "new tab" setting in IE set to option where it displays thumbnails of the "most visited" web pages. One or more of these sites must have been from this IP. I changed that option and the warnings have stopped.

I thought "GoDaddy.com" was a BIG commercial hosting platform....??? How can they stay in business if they host insecure sites?

You are right they are very big, but they also appear to be a law unto themselves -

This is also a bloated IP address with almost 6,000 sites listed here -

There appears to be a hungry ISP letting this IP address out -

Below is from Wiki -

Go Daddy's advertising is produced in-house, and typically contains sexually suggestive material

EDIT - Also an internal Malwarebytes link below

Thank You - :)
