Install problem: Error creating registry key

Recommended Posts

I updated the program yesterday and it added a new version. When I tried to install it I received the following error message:

Error creating registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\Malwarebytes'Anti-Malware_is1

RegCreateKeyEx failed; code 5

Access is denied.

When I click ok it rolls back the installation.

I ran RootRepeal and nothing came up.

I renamed the MBAM exe program and that didn't work.

I am running Windows XP Service Release 3 and Symantec AntiVirus.

Any recommendations to get the program installed?

Thanks

Hi rlcsurf -

I also run XP SP3 and I have just manually updated to the current version / 3413 -

Please follow the directions listed at item #7 in the shortcut below to ensure you do have a clean copy of the latest version of Malwarebytes - If it is a paid version note your key number as listed in the instructions -

http://www.malwarebytes.org/forums/index.p...ost&p=49525

If you do not have a paid version then ignore those instructions and just use our Un/re installer - This ensures it is not corrupted -

If you still think you have infection problems then please read on - Since we don't work on detailed Malware removal in these general forums.

Please read and follow the directions here, skipping any steps you are unable to complete. Then post a NEW topic here.

One of the expert helpers there will give you one-on-one assistance when one becomes available -

Thank you -

Step 1:

Reset Default Permissions:

  • Please download ResetDefaultPerms by AdvancedSetup from here and save it to your desktop
  • Close any open programs and save anything you were working on
  • Double click on restoredefaultperms.exe to run it
  • Once it completes it will restart your computer

Step 2:

Follow the instructions in item #7 of the FAQ located here

If that fixes it please let us know. If it does not solve the problem, then please proceed with the instructions posted by noknojon.

Thanks :P
